Guns 'N' Roses

No, not the band (although arguably just as criminal) but the 6th school gun incident this week in the U.S.

Middle American teen angst?
What makes teenage terrorists tick?

The same thing that is making kids here beat the hell out of people for merely saying boo to them. Disillusionment but with a justice system that is lacking in moral fibre and great big balls. At least in this country anyhow. Sorry I was'nt much help! Unless you make it a blanket thread to include the escalating violence over here?

right-track 02-15-2008 01:39 PM

Nope...this is about America and it's young, intelligent intifada.
The rebellious kids turned killers.

Assuming it's a form of rebellion, which I suspect in some ways it is.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-15-2008 01:46 PM

I blame the 'Think of the children' brigade.

They've basically wrapped kids up in cotton wool that they can get away with anything without an consequences.

I love it how so many kids these days have these so called problems like ADD. ADD? when I was a kid it was called being a annoying prick. You didn't get drugs for it , you got told to sit down & shut the fuck up

The reason it's happening is because people are always looking for the easy option rather than taking responsibility.

If I got up to no good I could guarantee there would be someone around to tell my Dad about it , and he WOULD do something about it.
I bet if I were to complain about the pikeys that live opposite me I would get told in no uncertain terms to fuck off.

So to sum up , the reason it's happening is because kids know if they do something wrong they know they'll always be someone there to make excuses for them and stop them from getting any proper discipline.

^ This is my perception of it.
And when they rebel, the consequences are dire.
I'm also wondering how much pressure American society has on individuals to become socially accepted.
American culture seems to catagorise individuals into definable groups from an early age.
ie; Jocks, nerds, geeks, dorks, cool/uncool etc.

I blame the atheists.

tkpb938 02-15-2008 05:56 PM

I'm sure the culprit is Valentines Day.

I hate kids these days, and i am one of them. well i am almost 19 so kinda in between, i totally agree with Urban kids get off so easy with everything. Like this week at school there was a fight like always, so the two kids were fighting, I know neither of them so i am not involved, anyways the fight ends one kid gets his ass handed to him, so the firends of the loser beats the other kid down stomping him, then when they were done, one of the kids who was stomping him comes back and pepper sprays they kids, and honestly it would not surprise me if i see this kid sometime soon around school, kids get of with so much these days, and here is this kid still in hospital 2 days later. I know this is not a shooting or anything but i am tired of this Sh*t happening all the time, and i know my school is not the only one.

The school system is weak. One of my friends got suspended for saying fuck in front of the super intendant and another one of my friends got in a fight and no one even got detention even though it was broken up by like two teachers.

What an understatement. I have teachers that run the gamut from mildly retarded to completely apathetic as to whether you learn anything or not.

Gates_of_Iscariot 02-16-2008 07:36 AM

lol, good.
anyways who cares, i refsue to abide my my school rules, and I have not served a detention once.

I see why kids shoot up schools, because the people in them are just plain idiotic, and annoying.

And for that they must die?

Does your school specialise in teaching annoying idiots?

So that would include you then too? Nobody should have to feel vunerable in the safety of a school. Unfortunately this is not the case anymore.

Sparky 02-16-2008 02:17 PM

i wish somebody would bring a gun to my school. SOMETHING to break up the average routine of the day :-/

^ I've always liked you mikey. :)

cardboard adolescent 02-16-2008 05:09 PM

i guess it's more glorious than suicide...
personally i've always felt pretty close to that demographic
but in high school my frustration with life/society,
rather than manifest itself constructively or destructively,
pretty much just turned into apathy.
i know it sounds weird, but i think you really need to be
pretty idealistic to think shooting a bunch of other people
before you shoot yourself makes any difference.

jackhammer 02-16-2008 06:14 PM

That is an interesting spin on it. So maybe heralding other pupils before yourself is some form of therapeutic absolution? It is not some form of anger but an emotional cartharsis? A selfless emotional gesture? A form of martyrdom?

It has certainly got me thinking differently. Although we (mercifully) don't have a huge gun culture over here, it still provides me with food for thought. My eldest son is 14 and seems fairly level headed, but im conscious of the fact that I really don't know what is going on in his head.

sex

[MERIT] 02-17-2008 01:23 PM

I bet if these kids had better access to better drugs they wouldn't feel the need to shoot up their local high school.
