It’s not exactly a JFK theory but ok sure businesses exist to make money if you consider that conspiratorial thinking then fine

I don’t know if I’d use the word “only” though. I get the store still has to provide a product. But they wouldn’t sell them if they lost money on them. They are definitely, unequivocally, beyond any doubt, sold to make money for the business. Any other explanation is fantastical.

Why do you keep stating that I'm saying that money making is a conspiracy. I never said any such thing.
The conspiracy is in YOUR head not theirs. I never said that they don't want to make money (!???!)

Of course, back then I practically lived in record stores.
So between those and Saul Smaizys' "Triad Radio" (we still keep in touch) and Earl McGhee's "Transition",
these account for the beginnings of a long time love - as well as an utter devotion to those 12" thingys.
Cool thanks for the links.

We may have crossed paths at some point. *shrug*

If you've ever been to Trendsetters in Harvey then we definitely have.

Lol, I phrased that weird. Of course they wanted money. I think I meant to say they needed money. Desperate times this and that.

If that benefit isn’t making a profit what do you think I think it is?

You wrote a screed on the "racket" of gift cards (it's not a racket because there's nothing illegal or dishonest being proffered). Then you said that you were "astonishe[d]" that it actually works. It works because some people might not know exactly what to get someone. People stopped buying music gifts for me a looooong time ago and so I get "cards" from, for example, Bandcamp, so I can choose and, most importantly, it's not just someone lazily throwing 20 bucks at me to go buy something. To think that a store offering the convenience of a gift card to a customer is somehow ensnaring them into their web of deceit or money-hungriness is conspiratorial. Instead, it shows that they are offering a valuable option to the customer and, yes, of course, it's a benefit to the store because they are offering their customers an option. They'll want to come back.

Finality: as "attractive" as the idea may be, there is no inherent conspiracy behind gift cards.
Yes just enough thought to make it clear the recipient is a treasured acquaintance who you probably wouldn't help move.

No but remember I ran a movie theater for years. Same sh*t. We'd get gift cards from other theater chains and be expected to take them even though that'd mean us giving away free product. They never understood.

My favorite are the schmucks who ask if they can use a coupon twice. Like, I'm still not sure if those people are trying to run a lame scam or if they literally don't understand how coupons work.
