Twice please, one from me.
That sucks balls, big time.
Glad you two okay though. Angry as you may be (quite rightly so!), in the end that's all that matters.
When you eventually get a new car, you will forget about the money issue.
Still sucks.

Thanks! Yeah I've been between jobs, and in a generally bad place lately. Not a good time for all this other stuff to be happening, but that's life. At least I found a great new job and will have real money rolling in again soon!

Was talking to the tow company again yesterday, trying to understand how they justify charging $650 for one man to stand by a truck and pull levers for half an hour, then drive away. Apparently there is something called a "rollover fee", and it amounts to $200. Somehow they feel justified charging me more because my truck rolled over before they got there. I wonder if they charge more for blue cars as well? Jerks...

Oh god. And they are making you pay that just before Christmas. How considerate.

Is there any reason for a 200 charge because your car rolled over? I don't get it, it just seems like a bogus charge with the purpose of milking as much money as they can from whoever they service.

You look pretty terrifying. I wouldn't want to ask you to pay anything before Christmas, especially a bogus charge. I'd refuse to pay and ask them for a decent reason. If you stand your ground, they might realise they won't get anything out of you and back off, if they know it's bogus. Present your case, and they'll know they have no reason to charge you.

I paid. They had me by the balls, and wouldn't release my car without me paying. I argued that "rollover fee" till I was red in the face but the girl at the counter was so goddamned daft that it was pointless. I kept asking her to justify the fee, and all she could say was "well, your truck rolled over, so I charge a rollover fee".

Anyway I got a junk yard out of Denver to tow it away. Got $450 for it. Bah.

I can relate. Last year I was in a 70 mph car wreck when I was between jobs. In fact, it actually happened on my way back from an interview for a job I didn't get. It cost me a bunch of money I didn't have and of course I got screwed by the insurance company, but like you at least I survived. The best thing I can tell you is at least it makes for a good story and with time you'll laugh at how absurd the situation was.

I don't mean to be a dick but wouldn't it be even more daft of her to let people argue their way out of mandatory fees that her employer sets?

Her bosses might find that quite daft. And if she's the boss herself then she's just greedy, not daft.

Either way, I agree that it's a ridiculous charge and it sucks that fees like that are legal for companies to enforce. Free-market capitalism at its most debauched.

Where I used to live there are heaps of restaurants and not much parking. Operators came up with the idea of opening up vacant lots for parking, then clamping or towing anyone who fell for it and charging a butt load to get their car back.
