I hate that too. Some refs go by the swallow the whistle policy in the last 30 seconds of a game. I guess they figure a no-call will create less controversy than a terrible call will. Oh well, maybe you can get some tall Afro's on you're team next time. That's always my strategy in pick-up games. The team with the most black people usually wins.
Wait, that sounds bad.

Haha sounds bad but so true.
I'm still a little pissed from that game tonight just because we were 1-10 and they were 11-0 and it was the playoffs. I was 6 for 6 from the line and I know I woulda made that last one but the refs definitely swallowed their whistles, I was getting my arms chopped off under the basket. And they were surprisingly good at calling fouls all game til that point, which is something I have never seen from intramural refs. Ok, done bitchin about it.
Next year, if a girl I know says "hey, wanna play on my intrmural coed team? My room mate and a few friends are gonna play" I will remind myself that these friends could very well possibly be 300 pound buffaloes who have never played sports before. I joined to meet some people but towards the end of the season it just became frustrating.
Here the pickup games are completely segregated. We have two courts, and one is the black game and one is the white game. I hardly ever play because I'm a pretentious basketball junkie and I think all of the play is about ten notches below what I want to be associated with. I know it's a pickup game, but after the 20th possession without any passes it gets old pretty quick. The white game is always terrible with guys who have obviously never or rarely played before. Just a collection of airballs. And then if I play in the black game, I'm lucky to get the ball passed to me twice all game. If I dare pass it, I know I'm not seeing the rock for another half hour.
If my brother and a few friends formed a team, we'd whoop on the black guys though. It was the same way in high school. The black teams never had any fundamentals and no basketball IQ. They would just try to fastbreak and chuck up dumb shots or try to dunk all the time. I miss playing hoops with guys who have played before. :soapbox:
