I'm not trying to start this discussion all over again, but, you have a girlfriend? Is it the same girl as we've been talking about? I'm just confused is all, as to who is who in your life, haha.

Same here. When I see a suffering animal, I can't help but think of my own pets, and how helpless they are in the face of human power.

It pretty much goes like this animal>kids>homeless woman>homeless man and the thing is, it doesnt even have to be a homeless man. It could just be a wounded guy on the side of the road but he would get passed over because he's the lowest on the totem pole.
Totally agree. It's sad we don't value human life the way we do animals.

I'll just never understand this mentality. I'd shoot my cat in a second before I'd shoot my girlfriend. I can't believe some people actually have to question that.

You guys must be kidding. Do you really think we as a society value non-humans more than humans? How much prison time do you think you'd get for killing a cat versus killing a human? Better yet, how do think people would react if you ate human versus eating... say... a cow?

Humanity is defined by how we treat animals. The differences between us define humans. Without animals, there would be humans, but no humanity.

all i have to say is look at Michael Vick.

also that's a bad analogy. it would have to be eating a human vs eating a domestic cat/dog

What's your point exactly? He did not even a year for being a piece of human garbage.

I would definitely say that most people put humans far above animals on the priority list. Don't worry guys, humanity isn't "going down the toilet". You just post on a forum with a bunch of misanthropists and animal lovers.

Yes, good example, look at Michael Vick. He was sentenced to 23 months for hanging and drowning 6-8 dogs. If he drowned and hanged 6-8 people do you really think he would've only received 23 months in prison? And do you think he'd be able to go back to playing pro football if he ever got out?

You didn't specify "domestic cat/dog", you just said "animals". But do you seriously think there'd be more of an outrage over someone eating a cat than there would over someone eating a human?

Depends how good your lawyer is

I went a little far to say "we," and saying all society, but I'm really just trying to express how stupid I think it is for people to put animals on the same plane as people. People like sk who have to wonder if they would rather shoot a cat or their girlfriend. In other threads I've seen people say they'd rather hit a person with their car than an animal. I feel like a lot of people don't have much sympathy for a homeless person begging for change, but all the sympathy in the world for a dog or cat or something.
