Kicking dogs is dreadful. I work in an animal shelter and some of the doggies had cruel owners who beat them, and because of that they can't be re-homed as they are too scared of people

No way. They get rough on each other now and then but that's just small nicks and scratches, usually only calls for an antiseptic, rarely I have to wrap one of 'em up for a rough cut. They do that to each other though, I'm not that rough on 'em.
