I hate this. I know I'm pretentious, but I at least keep it to myself and I really only start to talk about music when I know the other person could at least hold his/her own with me. I never try to "convert" people. When people do that to me I usually just tell them politely "No..really...I'm good" but what I really want to say is "HAHA are you serious? You really have no clue how much music I listen to, do you? I know bands that use tones and sounds that would make your head explode."

That would be really arrogant, though.

I can relate. Being in a school full of All Time Low fans and Classic Rock elitists usually makes me feel that way, and there's no way out.

I feel like a arrogant twat at times, even though I really am not one. Like when I go to mention a band to someone, and because of how much music I listen to and how much digging I do for my music compared to others around me, i stop and I ask if the person have heard of them before. Either that or I say something like "I'm not sure if you'll have heard of them" or "I'm not sure if you'll like them" because you know, i'm talking to a Pantera fan about Melt Banana or something but it doesn't always come across the way I intend it to.

Oh man, that happens to me ALL THE TIME. No one has called me on it yet, but I start every conversation just the same way. I've started to notice it myself and I'm sure people around me are thinking..."damn, what a douche..."

You do always do that. When I ask you about a show you're going to or something. ;P
