If we're talking Scottish accents, i kinda like those... I had a dear old couple who lived up the road from me back when I was in Australia, and i seriously loved talking to them, not only because their sense of humor and mannerisms were so unique and entertaining, but i just loved to hear the way they formed and pronounced words.

It's ok, my Australian accent still sticks out like a sore thumb here in the US... I kinda like it though, makes me feel unique... :-) I get folks that approach me just to hear me talk, because this area is so middle America, they tend to notice anything that is vaguely different... kinda funny sometimes!!!

When I was in London I felt like a complete outcast. I Must've repeated myself in restaurants ATLEAST 3 times.

Yeah, scottsy, people freak out at me calling a cell phone a hand phone (which makes infinitely more sense to me), so yeah...your accent probably gets you a lot of attention.

Alot of it is positive though, so sometimes it's kinda flattering... I can kinda tell the difference between someone being sarcastic and horrible about it and someone who is genuinely interested in talking to someone who grew up in a different part of the world.

I can't see why they freak out, it'a all the same - a mobile phone, cell phone or hand phone.
