Just curious. What was the "plan" you had for them?
...or was it just that you hadn't priced them yet?

We are 100% used. We have a big metal customer base and I only have so many original metal records. I'm waiting until the weekend to draw in a crowd. People come in for stuff and end up browsing and finding other sh*t. It's how we make money. If I sell things I have a plan for, like advertising on Instagram to bring in people, then people don't see it and potentially don't come in.

"They're already sold for way more than you'd ever pay."

If he says he'd pay more, then let him have it. Score. Pocket the difference.

When they're finally 'ready' for your plan and he asks about the buyer, say they backed out.

Property is theft anyway, so why not throw in a few lies. You're already going to hell.

That can be a hard call - and only you know your customers.

If the "nice dude" was also a rich dude, then I would've sold them right then and there.
Anyone else coming in on the weekend could dilute the asking price because, as you say,
they are buying other stuff and, potentially spreading out their money. Also, if somebody
complains about the albums no longer being there, you repeat what you (kinda) told us,
"Man, I got customers who really love this stuff and it really moves fast, so you probably
shouldn't wait until the weekend" - thereby getting them to check in more often
(when they, hopefully, see and buy other stuff in addition).

but, you know your customers...

Take a pic of the albums, sell them to the dude, and then put the pics up on Instagram when the time comes like you still have them.

You all have convinced me that you'd run this business into the f*cking ground. 80% of my customers are return customers. You guys think I run a Radioshack.

You look more like someone I'd expect to see managing an Apple store tbh.

I put out things as space is being made or if I have a lot of one genre/artist that I can promote the weekend with. It's part of running the business, controlling your inventory that you can't get back voluntarily.

Well, if you think waiting for the weekend while you're "controlling your inventory"
doesn't lose you sales, then OK, I guess. Remember too that the dude who wants
to buy the Maiden LPs will talk about his score and where he got them.
Of course, without money mentioned, he could be all talk - and you might never see him again.
Again, you know.

Also, my mindset isn't coming from lack of experience in exactly what you're doing.
I ran and owned record stores for 10 years - mostly used.

Oh I know. I totally value your opinion. Basically we are VERY friendly with our customers. Just talkative and approachable. It's nice because our store has a great following and culture but it breeds desire for special treatment and I throw bones where I can but there are some things I just can't do. I need to run the business how I run the business and that's through strategic promotion, merchandising, and opportunity sales. It's a balance. I also have been pretty dry on buying collections so I have to spread the good stuff out so I don't run out and have nothing to draw people in with.
