I never learned to swim cos I don't like the water. I was using the seasickness thing as an indication to show that EVEN WHEN ON A SHIP I still don't like being that close to the water. Nothing to do with seasickness/swimming; I just do not like the water. Never have, never will. Also I hated the smell in the swimming baths, the chlorine, and if I ever had any intention of trying to swim on the school swimming outings, that sealed the deal for me.

That'll really come in handy when Putin nukes the eastern seaboard, won't it? Or Trump does.

I was just asking because seasickness is caused by inner ear imbalance, not fear of the water.

Speaking from personal experience, water is easier to deal with when your chance of drowning and dying in it decreases.

I just never learned though. I don't like the water. When I used to go across to England on one of the old cattle boats when I was young I always got seasick. If I ever fall in, I'm drowning, man.

If you think about it, you're on a goddamn island too. It's just a whole lot bigger than mine. Shut up.
Haven't you ever been in a swimming pool? You don't drown at the shallow end.

I'm not a good swimmer tbh. I can do it, but I struggle after about 20 metres. I think it's poor technique as I tire myself out really quickly. It took me ages to get my 25 metre badge in school, was the last one to get it. Top sprinter though won all the sports day races >>>

My parents did that thing where they threw me into the deep end and said "you'll either learn to swim, or you'll drown." I nearly drowned.

One of my elementary school friends got permanent brain damage from that

My Dad did the same thing to me. I guess having your child almost drown is better than putting that beer down and taking a couple of minutes to actually teach your kid how to swim. Still can't swim, Thanks Dad.

I can swim to survive, but it's never for fun. A couple summers ago I was kayaking with my dog and we flipped, the kayak and my gear went downstream and my dog was heading upstream, so I had to grab the kayak and pull it against the current while I swam toward my dog, who is also strictly a survival swimmer, and the water was too deep to find the bottom and get any kind of footing. It was a nightmare but I saved the kayak and the dog. He won't get into kayaks with me anymore though.

No. Only in school, and as I said, the smell put me off and I just hated it. Got excused, sat there at the side of the pool and read a book instead whenever we had to go. **** swimming. If man had been meant to swim he would have been born with gills and flippers.

Idk, swimming out a hundred yards or so into the ocean with a floating cooler and mates is a solid time.
