This. I agree 100%.
Also, the American black metal underground scene on fb is extremely annoying, cliquey, and trendy. I'd rather find music the way I used to: Through word of mouth and digging around online. That way I don't have to deal with roughly four thousand shallow, empty-minded "people." A very large part of me is kind of like: "**** this. I'm going to other styles, away from these kids."

I'm getting so close to going off on some of my customers. Here's the most common exchange of words in this shop...

"Hey, can you go lower on this?"

"It's a three dollar record."

"Yeah, but can you maybe cut me a deal or something?"

"I'll give you 10% off at the end."

"Okay thanks. I love this store. I hope you stay in business forever."

WE AIN'T GUNNA IF YOU WANT A DISCOUNT ON EVERY SINGLE ****ING ITEM YOU TWAT.

This isn't a f*cking yard sale. It's a store. The only reason we put up with it is because we're still trying to build a customer base so their 10% off is better than nothing. The logic kills me though. "I love this store. I hope it stays forever. Please give me everything cheaper than how you price it which is already dirt f*cking cheap."

F*cking scumtwats.

the key is asking for more than you really want so you can afford to cut that 10% on almost all your inventory if you need to. that way you’re clearing extra when they don’t ask but not losing anything when they do.

i reguarly deal with the same goddamn customers here who just want to feel like theyre winning the deal

if the part goes for $400 i go in at $450 so when they fire back at $410 im like “oh man... i guess, just cause you’re a good customer.”

but yeah it does suck. people wanting something for nothing.

Yesterday we had a guy come in with a box of 45's. 25% of it was Stones and Beatles. The other 75% was garbage. I'm talking doubles and triples of Peter, Paul, and Mary, Billy Joel, and Elton John. We offered the guy $70 for the beatles and stones and he asked if we could make it $100 and take the whole lot. We told him that we only wanted the stones and beatles, that we couldn't sell or even get rid of the others, so we'd be spending an extra $30 for nothing.

Dude picked up everything and left. I just don't get it. He said he just didn't want to put the rest back in his attic. Well, now he's putting it back anyway without an extra $70.

People are weird.

lol

i remember when i was selling out of my collection i included in the ad that i had some random beat up classics that i would be willing to sell as a bundle or if someone was buying a newer/more expensive record could throw it in.

the amount of emails i got saying “hey how much for the used copy of thriller?” is a joke

like sorry man but i am not going out of my way to sell you a $2 record

Here's an email exchange I had yesterday. Seems appropriate since we're talking about assh*les and bargaining...

Black is him. Blue is me.

Quote:
By any chance, did you have an ad posted last November with the subject line "RECORDS WANTED! I BUY YOUR RECORD LP COLLECTION FAIR FRIENDLY & CASH", plus a similar one about a month prior?
Quote:
I havn't posted to the hudson valley before but that title does apply to me lol.
Quote:
OK, understood. The reason I ask is because I literally have three vinyl releases left:

**Posts links to two sales. One is three black sabbath albums with no price. The other is an Outlaws 45 that doesn't have a picture sleeve and needs "to be cleaned"**

but I'm going to be down in NJ this coming Saturday the 21st. So if any of those three titles would be of interest, let me know and I'll send along additional info (although the posting for the 7" single is pretty self-explanatory).
Quote:
I'm good. Looking to buy collections wholesale. Thanks though.
Quote:
If one dollar isn't a wholesale price, I don't know what is. Are things that bad in NJ?
Quote:
Ok, now im confused. Remember, this is the first time we've spoken. You sell dollar records?
Quote:
I'm actually confused as well, because your ad says that you buy "at fair prices" and wholesale isn't even the slightest bit fair to the seller by any stretch of the imagination. One of the items I sent you a link to costs $1, so since you weren't aware of that fact it means you didn't check any of them out. So I'd say we're all set here.
Quote:
Wow. Sassy aren't we?

Good luck. Sorry i didnt want to buy your crusty country single with no sleeve for a dollar.

I do cleanouts. I spend a few hundred dollars to haul off old record collections that people don't want anymore. That's what I mean by wholesale.

Also, didn't see the bottom part of your link with the single because it was midnight and I was in bed on my phone. Just read it again, saw the Rhino records $100 thing. Looks like you're sassy to other people too I guess.

Sassy susan.

Later.

Got a blank e-mail from you, but honestly I really can't think of anything else we really need to be discussing. You've already told me that you're one of those "I once watched an episode of American Pickers/Pawn Stars and am a master buyer/seller entitled to a liquidation level discount" (which I'm not offering), so as far as I can tell we're all set right?
Quote:
Dude...

First off, your attitude is sh*t. Be nicer to people. Life is short and a bitch.

Second, I put a long detailed ad on CL because I'm not one of those "I'm a master American picker" people. I buy collections that nobody wants anymore and the records I don't keep myself, I sell in order to fund my hobby, which is collecting records. I don't sell on eBay. I don't sell on Amazon. I sell a little bit on Discogs.

You asked me if I was some person you've dealt with before. I wasn't. Then you sent me a link to two CL sales. The metal albums had no price on them. You even mentioned that with interest, you'd send prices. Wasn't interested. Your second sale was a crusty outlaws 45 with no sleeve that you're selling for a dollar. Again, not interested. After I told you I wasn't interested, that I buy collections, you decided that you knew exactly who I was and what I'm about even though I provided you with zero information since I was the wrong person you thought I was to begin with.

So, yeah, I don't really deserve the **** you just laid on me. Seems like I was just a punching bag for your frustrations at the moment. Pretty ****ty. The irony is that you think I'm only out to dupe people for their money so I can flip the records and open up a shop with a busty receptionist and cruise the country side with my fat friend exclaiming OH MAN WHAT A DEAL ON THIS I'LL GIVE YOU 5 CENTS.

Yeah. Not about that. I ask people what they have. What they want for it and before wasting anybodys time, give them a realistic price I'm willing to pay because I'm not wealthy. If they don't like that price, I wish them good luck.

But you knew none of that but think you're smart and knew what my MO was. Turns out you're just an assh*le.

Good luck selling your crusty Outlaws 45 for $1. Remind me if we ever cross paths on CL or whatever who you are. I've been to New Paltz before. Hope you're not part of those record stores I've made numerous purchases from. I like those stores. But yeah, remind me who you are so I can ask you to eat a brick.

Later.

Still nothing (which usually means that someone is sending emojis between non-compatible e-mail programs), but since you're not taking the hint about the conversation being over I'm just going to block your e-mail addresses so your responses can't get through anymore. That should take care of it.
Quote:
Holy ****. You're such a little twat.
My long winded responses were pent up from the week but holy jeebus was that dude a twat out of nowhere.
