The only reason anyone ever bought cassettes was either that it was the only copy they could get or they couldn't afford a record player. I doubt anyone EVER went into a record shop and said "No I want it on tape!" unless they had no choice. **** cassettes. Back in the old days it was handy to have one because you could bring your (say it: in my case, ****ty) music with you, but now that that's possible to do without cassettes, there's absolutely no reason for anyone to release one except for, as you say, hipster reasons.

I will say, a really cathartic experience used to be stamping on a cassette that had gotten stuck in your tape deck, after you got it out of course. They smashed up real good.

My cousin used to swear by cassettes. He used to play them in his car to impress the girls I guess. I hated cassettes myself. I was, and am, a vinyl guy.

I'd way rather listen to cassettes in my car than records.

Yeah, but he had no vinyl at all. He even played cassettes at home.

Cumbersome as hell but they had 'em available as an option for a while...

Cassettes were awesome for all kinds of reasons. Loved them.
All kinds of people used to come into record stores I worked at,
managed or owned and bought stuff only on cassette.
Cassettes were portable, easily recordable, held lots of music,
especially good for mixtapes (duh?). I've experimented in sooooo
many ways using cassettes. I'm looking at a rack right now of
100 tapes - each 110 minutes in length just 8 feet away from me.

So annoying waiting for that rewind though... and the hiss.

When I was growing up, cassettes were what I listened to, even at home. I had a few records but I could only listen to them in the living room, whereas I could listen to cassettes anywhere.

I like CDs.

But vinyl is #1 for packaging.

I've been on such a great streak with depression/anxiety until I started remembering random past stuff tonight. Now I'm stuck in that awkward loop of trying to sleep but trying to stay distracted at the same time.
