Without getting at Ki specifically, I'd like to address the subject of threads being suddenly closed, whether the OP requested it or not.

I think that if the thread is not breaking any major rules then the closing should be telegraphed, ie if a mod thinks it needs to be/should be closed then a quick warning --- thread closure imminent or something like that --- should be posted, and if the OP wants it closed he/she/it should say so --- "Guys I'm gonna ask for this to be closed" --- in both cases to give those who wish to continue participating in the thread the opportunity to plead their case.

While I have nothing against mods (I have pictures of you all on my wall...) or even someone wanting to have their own thread closed (as I have done several times myself) I think it's a little perhaps not selfish, but maybe insensitive or unfair to just have it done without any warning or consultation.

I'd like to think that if this were to happen in the future (what do I mean, if??) my suggestions might be taken onboard. I think it would cut down drama, lead away from threads being made about threads (as in my case today) and give nobody an excuse to moan. But more importantly, it would show people who might be pulling the thread off topic that, if they wanted it to remain open, they had better cut it out.

Just a suggestion as I say; I'm gutted that thread was closed and I wish we had had a chance to convince the OP to think again.

I know. I saw Sleep Away camp in the theaters when it first came out. It had better murders than Friday The 13th.

Yeah. I already mentioned that. But when I ask for the thread to be closed I usually do so in the thread, not privately, unless it's VERY obvious that it's gone tits up (such as the suicide thread). I don't tend to just go BLAM! It's closed! And nobody has a chance to talk me out of it.

Love you!

Even though your not targeting me specifically, i'll just say what I said in your thread. If you read the last few pages of the Grandfather Paradox thread, I asked people multiple times to remain on topic or I would request the thread to be locked. Evidently, nobody took me seriously, and it resulted in the thread being locked as I had previously warned them of.

Another thing I don't quite understand is why you wanted to ask why my thread was closed in it's own separate thread. It probably would have been easier just to PM me to see if I knew what had happened. I wouldn't say you were in the wrong, I just think that it would have reduced the amount of drama that came of it, which I hoped wouldn't have happened as a result of me locking my original thread.

I kind of assumed a mod had closed it independently of you, possibly due ot the off-topic drama, and the old thread "why was thread X closed?" has been, you know, closed. I guess in hindsight I should have PM-ed you, but to be honest I never even thought about it, and at the moment my PM is almost permanently full with all the messages flying back and forth between Batty and I on our new journal.

Sorry if I got under your skin; didn't mean to. I genuinely thought that was a really great thread and had some more replies ready, so I was crushed when I saw it was closed. That's all really. It's a pity it had to die.
