Sorry man. I had to ask for the thread to be closed, as everyone latched onto my badly-chosen opening paragraph and I spent the entire thread defending or trying to explain that. It seemed the best thing to do in the end as people were getting really upset and angry.

For those who want to know, or care, that lady in the OP got off: no jail, totally innocent of all charges. As it should be.

I think it's a pity people get so easily riled up. It makes it harder to debate difficult subjects and they're usually the ones that are actually interesting / important to discuss.

Semantics. We've sorted our differences out, but the fact is that everybody ignored the thrust of the thread and latched onto my comment about my feelings about those who commit suicide, which was not my intent.
In this case, nobody was discussing what I had intended to be discussed, so the thread had gone wildly off-topic (while paradoxically somehow also staying on-topic, as it were) and it was just time to call it a day.

Feel free to open a new thread; I'm sure you'll word your argument far better than I did and get better response.
