I assume it's more about preserving the weed. Use a grinder and just sprinkle some on top. Does the job.

I've always thought the reason was cos it burns better, that's why everyone I know does it. 13-16 I was mad on it and I've never known anyone to smoke a pure spliff regularly.

I don't see the point in smoking blunts unless you've got a room full of people wanting to partake. It's a waste to roll one up for less than 3 or 4 people. A joint or bowl can easily gets the job done.
