I absolutely agree with you. As Grogsy said it's a unfair burden on you, especially because it's your mother. The mother-daughter boundaries are blurred because of the BPD I imagine. I would definitely consult a doctor, don't feel bad for not doing so sooner. It's hard to know sometimes what someone is going through or what they mentally aren't coping with. You're doing the right thing. Also, if you don't like the doctor or don't trust them, get a second opinion. I would be worried too about the carer. You just don't know what he could be doing there. But honey it's up to you, do you think you might put her in a safer environment like a residential home? The journey won't be easy, but like I've said before I'm here if you want to chat. I am no expert but have battled mental illnesses myself. Sending my love.

She's in government housing at the moment with all the equipment she needs. But she refuses to see any doctor. I've even suggested to get a doctor out to her place but she keeps refusing. I understand that it's her decision in the end, however the last time I saw and spoke to her she looked and sounded very weak and do not feel she is safe.
I will consult the doctor on Thursday, but if they say they can't see her without her permission because she's not in any immediate danger then... I won't know what to do. I guess I'll just focus on consulting the doctor now and then worry about my next move after. Thanks Vanilla for being really supportive.

Not on any medication. She denied the diagnosis completely a few years ago I guess because she finds the idea of having a mental disorder insulting, and is very sensitive about it. I don't think it's a good idea to bring it up because of potentially putting her through another distressful episode.
It's pretty clear now that a doctor should really handle this. But I also think developing strategies for conversation might help. Has anyone else supported someone with BPD or something similar? I'd like to hear how you handle it if so...

Today I had an encounter with a new level of stupidity. One I didn't want to think was possible, but I knew it would surface eventually.
Our store offers point* cards; for every $5 you spend or every donation, you get a point. 15 points gets you 30% off your next purchase. Well, our most recent point card expired about a week ago. No more points to accrue, and full cards expired just yesterday. *that's not the actual terminology but it's not your business Enter Tard-O-Matic: Spoiler for the riveting tale of a pedestrian I'd forcefully back into and drive over again without flinching:

Why would you have one quarterly and then end it early for whatever numbers they need and have a gap in the period where people can't earn points. The points card/system is stupid and I agree with that customer.
