Sidenote: callous as it may seem, if, after all this advice, you go ahead and get hooked on the stuff, I don't want to hear about it. You'll get no sympathy from me. Or most people here. You can't willingly decide to **** up your life and then whine about it afterwards. Much better not to do it and keep your friends here.

I agree. There are a couple of junkies in my family who have just destroyed what were once promising lives, and they're just shells of the people they used to be now, both mentally and physically. I would hate for that to happen to anyone else.

This is true to an extent but it's also a shameful fear tactic that doesn't apply to every drug user.
Drug users can't really play ignorant, THEY KNOW how harmful drugs can be so these kind of posters mostly serve to scare off non drug users with extremist misinformation.

I agree with the notion that these are cherry picked "faces of meth" mugshots. I will point out that alcoholism reqires a genetic predisposition whereas drugs like heroin, cocaine and meth create their own addiction, it can happen to anyone that makes the decision to use them.

is it really? my grandfather was an alcoholic and so was my father but ive never been much of a drinker.

My grandfather was a crazy alcoholic, the type who drank rubbing alcohol if he had no other choice. i didn't personally know him he died when i was a baby but ive heard family stories about his alcoholism and they were wild.
