And make more summer blockbuster superhero movies, and sure remake films that aren't even that old (Robocop) and put Will smith and his family in it too and give Mickey mouse a lightsaber!! Just make every movie a forgetable CGI masterpiece of half assed plots and pretty coloured explosions.

And don't get me wrong, I'm psyched for the new Transformers movie, but that's ONLY because we need more giant fighting robot movies, that's it. I don't care for Iron Man movies after the first one, and the same goes for Captain America. And don't even get me started about the Star Trek movies. It's not even in the same UNIVERSE (pun intended) as the show in terms of intellectual discourse, like why even call it Star Trek? |

@Wpn
See? we all like those big budget CGI films, it sure beats the old action films were Steven segal kicks everybody's ass with his pony tail But the thing is those movies only represent what the mainstream consumers like, but there are other alternatives to those type of movies, movies made for a different smaller audience that become cult favorites. me? i like both. im not always looking for some avant guarde indie film sometimes i just want to see some mindless plot where the guy gets the girl at the end after saving humankind from something. speaking of clichés look for this scene in alot movies, There is a struggle between the good guy and the bad guy and one of them disarms the other one After fighting a bit some more there is a moment the bad guy is gonna win and as our hero crawls into the ground and the bad guy is gonna deliver his finishing blow, some weapon they tossed earlier or something conveniently appears and then in a second, BAM! bad guy dead, hero wins by luck, cliché movie magic

I disagree with that as well. I think the past year's movies have been (or appeared to be, for the ones I haven't seen) among the most intellectually engaging year's worth of movies I can recall.

You can't generalise. I don't watch many movies, but would agree that if you go by the ads for "summer blockbusters" they're all of a certain type (though who isn't looking forward to "Muppets most wanted"? ) but there are tons of really good movies made that only surface probably at festivals, in smaller cinemas, direct to DVD etc.
I guess if you said "The quality of summer blockbusters has really declined" you'd be right, although there really wasn't too far to fall for them, now was there? I swear: if someone else reimagines something or makes another superhero movie (or worse, reimagines a superhero movie that was already one (cough) Spiderman(cough)) I think I may just finish building my escape craft and leave this planet to its own devices. Originality, people! It may not put bums on seats but it puts brains in heads!
