Its not most peoples thing. I'd say you're better off without it, but it keeps calling to me.

I also did it back home, where the risk of getting caught with weed completely outweighs the tiniest amount of enjoyment. It's not even decriminalized and never will be. Plus it's just not tolerated so you become kind of a social pariah if people find out you've smoked weed. It's good to be in a place now where people don't think that way, but I doubt I will smoke again.

I'm assuming its because of the muslim influence on society? It certainly would never outweigh jail time for me or being a social pariah.

An acquaintance of mine from the UK was teaching English in Indonesia when he was caught with two joints in his home and arrested. He was sentenced to twelve years in prison (the maximum for drug possession if I remember correctly, and in the worst prison in the area) which was eventually dropped to five. He would never be able to teach again and he wasn't able to return to the UK. A bunch of us rallied and wrote to ambassadors, raised money, created petitions, and got in touch with human rights groups, but he killed himself before we could make any real progress. Sad times, man.

Maybe more so in Bosnia where most people are Muslims. In Croatia, most of them are Roman Catholics and that affects how people live their lives. In Serbia, it's probably the Christian influence on society. Police in Belgrade might turn a blind eye to pot smoking if you're not acting strange or anything, but not always. So you don't want to get caught if an officer is having a bad day, lol. Or they might let you go with a simple warning if you offer up a nice wad of cash to them.

I believe in Bosnia, you can get sent to prison for quite a long time for possession. Possibly even a death sentence. I'm guessing it's like that in other Muslim countries.

I don't know if I would want to be in a Serbian jail. I don't even want to end up in a Canadian one simply because of the high risk of deportation, and then not being able to come back. Weed is used and tolerated among younger people there, but older people probably won't be so forgiving towards you and possibly even your family. Which can pose a problem since culture and traditions are largely social.

Homosexuality is still looked down upon there as well, again it's the old Christian traditions and beliefs. If you are gay, you better not make it known. It's so much better in the US and Canada, and even Western Europe - attitudes about such things are much more positive.
