I'd never give it to them. If they don't know it exists they'll never feel like they're missing out. Cats love fish and turkey and whatnot enough anyways.

I feed our cats dried food and they love it. Not only is it much cleaner, doesn't really smell at all and better for them, it's the sort of food you can leave in their bowls all day and they can just come and go, eat when they like and it's still fresh. Tinned food, once in the bowl, you've got an hour, tops, before it goes into a state that a) they won't eat it (don't blame them) b) it smells as Batty says and c) you have to clean the awful gunk out of the bowls.
The lesson to be learned is: feed your cats on dried food. Better for them, better for you. Oh, and as for pills? Put them in butter or something like that and you have a far better chance of your cats taking their medicine. Also, canned tuna is great for cats, but only one or two days a week. It does smell, but of fish, and unless you overfeed them there's going to be very little left in the bowl for you to clean out afterwards. Score!

Cat food is bitchin.
The GF puts canned cat food out for her 3 just about every night when she gets home. It's better than smelling litter boxes, but blech it's digusting.

^ I've had more than a few nightmares of bathrooms in that condition, sadly and horrifyingly not from that great movie but from actually walking into them (and consequently bolting out of them at high speed) IRL. The worst one was in Montana.

It's better for their teeth (crunching helps their teeth stay strong - and cleans them, too) and there are less calories in dry food than canned food (feline obesity, while cute, is very serious and could lead to diabetes). Canned food is OK sometimes, but only as a treat.
