I love driving. But the problem with automatics for me is that I don't have control over the car while driving it. Also, standards are easier and cheaper to maintain since the gearbox is simpler, if you even need to replace the transmission at all, they're better on fuel, and they're about a 1000 dollars cheaper than their automatic counterparts. Also you don't have to keep your foot on the brake the whole time you're stopped at a light because the drivetrain isn't constantly pushing the car forwards. That makes for a faster takeoff when the light turns green.

I had to drive my mom's car this morning and it's an automatic and it's also really ugly. Maybe I'm just bitter lol.

Also, since I'm still in the learning stages. Faster takeoffs are bad for me when I take the road test so I don't mind getting a slow take off.

My whole family are all petrol heads so an automatic is completely out of the question .

When I did my first road test I used an automatic, because I was still so shaky with the clutch pedal while taking off at lights. If you don't let go at just the right time and in the right gear, the car will either jump start or stall out. Takes a bit of practise but I got the hang of after awhile. Where you really have to pay attention to this is when you're waiting at train tracks, and then taking off when the train is gone. Especially if you're first. You don't want the car to stall out on the tracks. If it does, just get out and say bye to your car if a train comes before the tow truck

Lol, I still have my car! That never happened to me but it happened to my dad a few years ago. His car stalled on the tracks and was then hit by a train. It was a fairly new car as well and he got a huge insurance payout because they deemed it a lemon.
