Man, my new spot in the office is great and all. Has a window view. Spacious. Etc...
However, for some reason I keep accumulating major static charge there. I can be sitting down, doing whatever, then when I get up I accidentally brush against the metallic part of the desk, or the wall, or practically anything... POP! This is no little "snap". You can probably see an arc when the discharge happens if the lights were out. It doesn't "hurt", but it sure does surprise the f*ck out of me, and it makes me elicit a pretty loud "F*CK!", which is probably somewhat unprofessional. It wouldn't be bad if I knew what was causing the charge. Then I could anticipate. But I don't know what it is. I've done everything. I cannot figure out how I'm charging up. And if I avoid touching anything I know that at some point, when I'm not thinking about it, I will ground myself and say f*ck. If this goes on, people will start to suspect I have Tourette's.

my addiction to caffeine makes me feel a little ashamed.
I was functioning at a fraction of my usual productivity today (which isn't typically fantastic otherwise; I'm lethargic most of the time) just because I'd gone the whole day without one little drop of a caffeinated beverage. Then later I guzzled down some caffeinated gold, and now I'm back to normal. something tells me humans weren't supposed to be like this.

I think that article was based on per square mile of road or something. It's old anyhow, things have gotten a little better since then, but it's still pretty crappy, especially Ashland Ave.

Or he can stick his dick in some red paint and go paint the lobby. No one will care if he drops the "F" bomb then.

So this happened today:
I was cleaning up the furniture department in the store I work at, because it's always nice to keep things looking nice, there were this group of ladies sitting on the couches and chairs surrounding a coffee table with all their clothes (i mean, ****ty taste in fashion) on it. An hour or so went by and they were asked to leave the area since they were just sitting there and that's basically intruding the department by not letting others see the merchandise on the floor, the manager asked them to leave, and as they were walking away, my manager says "you need to take the clothes as well" (since they left everything they were looking at on the table), they looked at her as if she was crazy, and they literally felt like it wasn't their job to clean up their own mess. Than a few minutes passes and this younger girl with a snarky attitude decides to comment on the situation saying "well, you guys work here" and my manager and myself both comment back stating that if you take something off the rack, just bring it to the front so an associate can put it back instead of it taking up space in the department, my manager also added that she can feel free to shop around if she still wants to. The girl retorted by saying "psh, i don't shop at ghetto stores" in which I responded, "well, then you can leave", and my manager backed me up on that too, and the girl agreed to leave the store where I added "we appreciate it". Than they go to the register and they were caught by one of the cashiers of switching the tags of the clothes, because the tags didn't match the merchandise, even though it was obvious they didn't want to shop their in the first place. Second part of my irritating day. I've got this coworker who will NOT (even with constant guidance) clean up the area that WE work in. I came into the store at 9am today, and he had closed last night, and I had to clean up his mess that he left the night before even though we were strictly told to clean up when we close (which I always do, and have been told I do a great job at doing so), so i'm there spending the first part of my day picking up his mess and organizing everything so I can get to work, it gets to about 1pm, and he comes in and starts his shift, and everything in the work area looks really neat and tidy, not even ten minutes passes and the place is trashed again. Needless to say, I didn't even bother trying to clean up his mess at all today, I went ahead and focused on my department on the floor instead of working in the back. I'm seriously considering talking to one of my managers tomorrow, because I don't need to spend the first part of my day, cleaning up after his mess when he knows very well that he shouldn't do what he's doing. I also feel like reporting him may be bad for me because I don't want to seem like a snitch. So, i'm not too sure what to do about that. Anyway, that was my day. |

yeah working retail is awful
I'm currently doing it (again, god bless my poor soul.) It never works well for me because I am always forced to live a double life. The last few times it's been the same cycle, and naturally I have difficulty learning from my mistakes. I lie my way into getting hired, work really hard and don't break any rules and immediately get a ton of hours(already getting overtime my second pay period). This causes the corp to become curious about my success which leads them to further inquire on to my previous work history, to which they unfortunately find out it's awful and not at all like what is stated on my resume. After this they do an actual background check(not the outsourced instant one just to screen potential candidates, fortunately my stuff is out of the state im current living in so it never appears on this) to which they also find some...lets call them "red flags". This puts the corp in an awkward position, on one hand they have a very hardworking (because i need the money very badly) punctual, reliable employee successfully imitating a wholesome, respectable person. On the other, they are left with an employee who has committed minor fraud, is not at all the personality he is at work. This means the company cannot (so far, god bless my soul) terminate me(altough they certainly can any time) because it would not make sense to the co workers who appreciate my effort. This forces the company to send very, very many secret shoppers my way who try to make my life difficult and lead to to induce mistakes that would be obvious and and clear reasons to everyone to terminate me. The constant secret shoppers lead me to be stressed out and not at all personable because I know any mistake can be the end of it. This causes my sales and overall customer satisfaction to deteriorate, which eventually leads to less hours and me getting a new job and repeating the cycle again. What confuses me is how the corp is able to convince my entry-level co workers to turn against me and monitor me. People think im crazy when i try to explain this modern company climate, but anyone observant, and who has worked retail I believe has a pretty easy time figuring out who the secret shoppers are. And it's also clear to me when my co-workers are aware of my true nature because all of a sudden they are asking me questions about rules and regulations they already know, and are likely being given incentive to see me slip-up. |
