Actually I should have clarified. There WAS no divorce in Ireland at the time. In 1994 the act was repealed that prohibited divorce so I guess we do have it now, though it's not something I take any notice of. I don't think there's much in the way of actual divorce here these days though. I could be wrong. I just know it wasn't around when my ****bag father effed off, leaving my ma with NO support, financial or otherwise, and basically leaving her with no recourse to courts or anything, and having to carry the burden of the family on her own while he got to live his new life. He's still alive, the bastard: just shows ya, devil looks after his own!

That's an understatement. Or it was, until we started getting a lot more ethnicities in; I think there may be more muslims than Catholics in Ireland now. Nothing wrong with that, just sayin. But yeah, as far as the Catholic/Protestant divide, the former is in the majority in the south while north of the border they're mostly proddys.

Yeah, divorce is looked on as a sin. "What God has put together let no man put asunder" and all that. Interesting to see that even when we did get divorce here it was only by the slimmest of majorities, something like 51-49. Not anywhere near as conclusive as you would have thought.

The Catholic Church had a massive sway over Ireland, to the point that if a priest was accused of something, and almost if you had video evidence of him doing it he'd be believed just because he was a priest. That fear/respect is what led to the huge and shameful revelations in the past year or so about clerical abuse here. Priests were untouchable (but not untouching it would seem...)

What was it like for you ?
First of all, I'm really sorry to hear that and yes it can be quite terrible being amidst of a messy maybe-maybe not divorce. I hope they're not putting you in the middle of it at least.

Second this was pretty much the case with parents through my entire family childhood, and until now. It's actually the reason why it's very hard to keep contact because they still won't shut up about it, and all they do is **** on the bad messenger. So I refuse to get involved in their lives.

Bizarre from the article I read it read completely opposite. Way to step into the 19th century Ireland.

My fucking ex just emailed me out of nowhere telling me "you were right"

I know his mannerisms and speech too fucking well and I know that means he wants me to talk to him desperately. I just give in because fuck this guy. Apparently he looked up borderline personality disorder finally and he's 90% sure he has it. Good for you, asshole. He tells me "thank you for trying to help me" ...after all the bullshit you put me through, "thank you"? Fuck you. I took care of you for two and a half years and all you ever did was treat me like shit. I think about responding with "you're welcome" because I had a fleeting moment of pity for him but then I remembered, that girl doesn't fucking exist to him anymore. So I told him, don't you mean "sorry for treating you like shit when I tried to help you" and he's like yeah so I tell him to fucking say it. He does. I just replied "ok" because I know it's going to piss him off that I didn't say I forgive him. Well what can I say? I don't. Fuck you dude. Of course you would try to fucking come back in my life right when I start to fix my life and when I'm happy, relatively healthy, and for the most part sane and untroubled by my severe mental illness that I had to repress our entire relationship yet was also triggered by him constantly.

ughhhhhhhhhhh

What's this girl demanding, if I may ask? I'd say it's some emotional confusion. Girls tend to go through that. Not saying it doesn't go for men too.
