I'd say he was between 40-50 not really sure. I can understand that but it still doesn't explain or excuse his behaviour because it wasn't in a nasty context in any way, in fact we were having fun with the bastard.

Yeah I can understand that, which is why we would never have even went near the subject because you just don't know. It never crossed our minds for a minute and were quite confused by almost a change of subject. Yeah I know a lot of people who find it easy to joke about 'taboo' subjects not because they don't care, they're just laid back about it. It was just weird cos if someone asked me to say words because of my accent I wouldn't randomly flip out especially in the context it was in, it is a stupid meaningless joke made by a stupid guy. Guy needs to chill the **** out.

Yeah I could imagine older Irish people would be more sensitive to a subject like that, it just sort of annoyed me as if he was being defensive when he really had no reason. It is the same with today, it was as if he wanted to make an example of me in front of the whole class when it really wasn't needed. I never said he made me cry cause there really was no need really, but I'm not the kind of person to get mad/upset easily and it just pisses me off to no end that it is as if he is on a constant power trip. WELL HE CAN FUCK RIGHT OFF.

We're not...

Thought you being a Scots lass would just have chinned him though? Isn't that how you express your opinion "oop north"?

Yeah wellll... I'm older (50 next year) and if someone brought up the famine then I'd maybe be a little touchy about it, but only if someone said something like "ah you stupid Irish we could have wiped you all out with another potato blight" or something like that. Just mentioning the word potato is not going to a) offend me or b) start me off talking about the Great Famine.

I am very tuber-tolerant, personally.

Really sorry to hear that, BD. Were you very close to her? That's quite young to die. My mam was 62 when cancer got her.

In other news, my aunt died yesterday after a brief, acute illness that caused a hemorrhage in her brain. She slipped into a coma after being admitted to hospital. Her kids were by her side when they took her off life support, and some of her organs were harvested for donation. I am glad that some people are able to live because of her. She just turned 56 on Tuesday .

My dad was very close to her as he is only a year older. She lived out in Vancouver so if there is a funeral service or something like that, my dad will fly out there. His other sister in Los Angeles would also fly out for a service. My cousins are all grown - there are three of them, all in their early 30's. They are taking it really hard of course, but are handling everything that has to be done really well.

The rest of the extended family is still in New Zealand, but they know and have sent their condolences. We got Facebook to memorialize/archive her profile, and set it so that friends and family can still post condolences and memories and photos.

It's been a really difficult couple of years for the family - my grandmother died in February 2011 and my dad is still reeling from that.

Fucking IRS and their 109 Internal error message that means I can't get this EIN for a company I formed today. I've got everything else ready, I just need this, and their stupid system has been down all day. I told the client I'd have their documents out to them by the end of this afternoon, but now it's looking like Monday at the earliest because they shut down their online EIN Application service on the weekends.
