Day three on the job and I have a complaint...
The owner is wayyyyyy too stingy with the money he's willing to put out there for equipment. The whole operations section feels the same, and explained to me that he doesn't know the technical side of things, only the business end... but why wouldn't he have taken their suggestions on the grounds that they do? Basically, they bought a server that I'm remotely installing 3 virtual servers on, all three of which require a particular amount of RAM to be allocated just to run. Well, when you buy a bottom of the line server that maxes out at 16 gigs, you don't have a lot of overhead when absolutely all of that is required just to run the host server and the three virtual ones with their particular services. Yea, it will work for now... but dear owner.. if your company grows and more accounts are hosted, which I'm assuming you want to happen, instead of merely having to buy more RAM, you'll have to buy a whole new server! So, it makes sense to me that the better option would have been to buy a good server for the price of two ****ty ones, that way when you expand, you simply have to upgrade parts, not the whole system. And even though it seems like 6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other, when it comes to how much money you'll spend either way, the decision has to be made on the fact that it's far more preferable to expand your server's capacity with as little down-time as possible. Adding some sticks of RAM and powering on, vs. Installing an entire new server, swapping all the disks, and then struggling over driver problems and incompatibilities if you foolishly decide to not buy a higher-tiered version of the same server... which would include your network being down the whole time. Which has the high potential of you losing customers, which equates to money. Y u no business intelligence? |

I'm a pretty chillaxed dude, but acid and shrooms give me panic attacks. If someone did that to me, well I'd be too busy hiding in a corner trying not to kill myself, but after that, someone is getting a two-by-four to the face.

I've always wanted to be spiked with acid to see how I'd react. I suppose that inappropriate timing wouldn't be too fun, though.
