That isn't just rude, that's ignorance.
In these kind of situations I can only really begin to understand someone being annoyed when two people are talking in a foreign language to each other to deliberately exclude others. Not because they are proud of their language or want to retain their identity or anything, but purely to exclude others. Even then there would be no need to say that to them though, I would just think it was a little rude of them to do that.
The only reason for him to say that to your boyfriend, given those circumstances, would be a dislike of all foreigners. If thats the case, then I doubt many people would be taking his side or seeing things from his point of view if he really is that narrow minded and offensive a person and I hope the next time he visits a foreign country he gets a good kick up the arse back over to you...although that may not be good for you guys.

That puts things into perspective, definitely. Canada prides itself on multiculturalism and diversity, so it's shocking when people are so blatantly against it and start blaming immigrants for things that are happening (oh, they're all taking the jobs away, etc).

Besides, you Canadians shouldn't be talking English anyway. Get your own fucking language. :)

Hey I speak Canadian. Hows aboot that, eh?
You guys hardly speak English either - each accent sounds like an entirely different language :p:

It's unfortunately a common thing to every country that 1% of them at least will be intolerant and bigoted arseholes. Of these 1%, probably 0.5% will go around proving it by their actions. The other half will just stay at home, muttering under their breath drinking wicked strength whisky and clutching a shotgun, waiting for "the balloon to go up"...
Anyway, isn't French a major language over in beautiful Canada?

Well he thinks he owns Serbia... always saying "in MY country"
Basically, that's how I feel about the whole thing. Some people just have no filter and will speak their minds, usually to garner some attention.
Yes, French is an official language here. Spoken by the majority of people in Quebec and the basics of it are taught in schools across the country. I speak French because I did the immersion program, and also because I actually went to French school for a couple of years.

Mr. "this is Canada and we speak English here" needs to take a little trip to Quebec and try saying that.

LOL! He would not get away with that **** over there. Especially now since they just had an election and the separatist party is now in power (that honestly scares me, I weep for the future of this country if they start pulling their crazy radical ****.)
