Its that attitude that breeds street kids. Thinking that you are a slave to the man because you have a job. I don't have to submit to authority at all. I respect my supervisors because they have earned my respect. I told my old manager that he was a dumb jackass who had no place in management. I still kept my job and ended up with a promotion ahead of my peers. Yes men don't make it far. You have to have a backbone to be successful. Working young teaches you the value of a dollar better because know what it takes to earn one.

My point is that you don't have to buckle and be a yes man. I didn't clarify why I told my boss what I did. He was a terrible supervisor who didn't even know what my job included and kept trying to tell me how to do it. I eventually snapped and told him where to shove it. No you shouldn't go around telling your boss to **** off, but you shouldn't bow your head and say yes sir either. You don't have to lose your backbone to have a job. Use tact and know your limits. Don't step on the wrong toes unless you know you ARE right.

Predator is right , you have to fight your corner once in a while or you'll get walked over.
I used to do what I was told , worked extra whenever I was asked and it got me nowhere. Once you do something for a favour the next time they want you to do it they expect it from you. Now I say no more often without feeling guilty , If I think my boss is in the wrong I make sure he knows it , i've even threatened to quit a couple of times , both times I was awarded a rise to pursued me to stay. Bosses will try to get as much out of you as they can for as little as possible and sometimes they need reminding of how valuable you are to them.
