The background art from Bakshi's film Cool World still blows my mind.

That's actually really striking.

I created some art while on PCP once. It turned out pretty good.

There's another one out there somewhere, but that's been gone for over 20 years, which was when I did all that.

Here's my latest though:

lol

I'll see if I can put together some of my old sketches.

Plankton 06-02-2020 12:29 PM

Wait...

What tf happened to that Basquiat post?

Plankton 06-02-2020 12:46 PM

Joe still has it too. lol

Drinking and art seem to go together. My brother and me used to drink beer and throw darts in our garage, and after darts we'd do some collaborative sketches. Like this:

About the Negroes, the kind I don’t like is the philosophizing prophesying pontificating kind, the James Baldwin kind. Very ignorant but never silent. Baldwin can tell us what it feels like to be a Negro in Harlem but he tries to tell us everything else too. M. L. King I dont think is the ages great saint but he’s at least doing what he can do & has to do. Don’t know anything about Ossie Davis except that you like him but you probably like them all. My question is usually would this person be endurable if white. If Baldwin were white nobody would stand him a minute. I prefer Cassius Clay. “If a tiger move into the room with you,” says Cassius, “and you leave, that dont mean you hate the tiger. Just means you know you and him can’t make out. Too much talk about hate.” Cassius is too good for the Moslems.
Flannery O’Connor

Duh, homophobia affects white people too.

Great writer but I didn't know that side of her, damn.

Flannery will get you nowhere.

I'm looking for a large abstract/intricate/trippy/whatever art print to put up by my desk. The dimensions that I'd prefer are 48in x 32in, but I have space for 72in x 42in. Don't really want to put nails in my wall so it'd have to be something that could come in a (quality) print/poster form.

Any suggestions? I was thinking about getting Garden of Earthly Delights but it feels like a cop out.

Plankton 08-06-2020 08:00 AM

I have this on my wall, and my friend has it on her fridge, which we added colored led lights to to make it a complete art installation:

How about something by Max Ernst?

Marie Monday 08-06-2020 09:12 AM

Love it

grindy 08-06-2020 09:41 AM

Yeah, it's a good one.
You should post more of your art, Mindy. I liked everything you showed us so far.

Preciate it.

I can't put my finger on why I've never been huge on Ernst though. Something about his colour choice or the way he does detail I think. Dali's more flamboyant approach is more my speed.

Plankton 08-06-2020 12:49 PM

This is NOT my best work but its better than the crazy stuff I painted on it first. So I painted the whole thing yellow and did Metatron's cube over it. It was almost 5 years in the making for this though. Used fancy yellow and black paint, paint markers, plus weak white and red paint. That other painting on the ground I did years ago but its a Steve Jobs quote. I have a dream of painting a bunch more on canvas and selling on my website but just havent yet. Still dont know what to paint but Im going to make it a goal to get something new started after I put the finish touching up on this one. May paint over them 4 elements symbols because they just seem out of place. But the goal is to have this finished soon and put for sale on my website. May put up that Steve Jobs one also.

Looks good.

Spoiler for the power of CAD:
Just for shiggles. Took me 10 minutes.

It probably would have been less if I didn't get sidetracked by someone wanting some actual work done.

The process:
  • 12" dia circle
  • Array middle circles
  • Array outer circles
  • Pline to outer circle centers
  • Offset to outer circles tangent
  • Create lines in middle circles using centerpoints/rotate
  • Export linework to PDF
  • Bring PDF into Photoshop for color matching
  • Export to PNG
  • Post it up here
