Wow that video was amazing. I really love the emotions you can pull while using paint. Paint is where it all began computer wise. :)

Euronomus, I'm pretty sure I saw your works in a college gallery. They were the only ones that caught my interest.

PoorOldPo 02-07-2012 05:33 PM

The psychedelic Garden. This painting is on an A0 piece of card, so it is massive.

Hey, well for now I just do it for myself. I have only been doing are for about 2 years. I didn't do it in school. Right now I am kind of doing it as a hobby but I have sold stuff to people and some irish bands are interested in the art right now. :)

Thanks <3 Really glad you like it! I don't like a lot of the stuff I do but it is always comforting when other people like it!

It's just refreshing to see unique art. I can definately see it on band's album art :D

I would really love to make art that could be used on album covers. Just don't have the confidence and inspiration like I used to.

Although, my sister is a mad illustrator. I'm thinking about seeing whether or not we can get some of her drawings (and mine) on some t-shirts to sell.

Love that tree man ^

A little drawing I did for a project I'm working on:

I'd love to see more of your work Jansz, especially since seeing you say you're a professional artist. Graphic artist?

Janszoon, your drawing reminds me a bit of the animations for the film Persepolis (which were very highly regarded, so that's a compliment).

I'm a graphic designer (which for me includes web, print and multimedia work) and most of what I do is more around "look and feel" sort of things like typography, composition and color palette. So I actually don't draw all that often unfortunately. It kind of cracks me up that I feel like I used to draw and paint so much more before I went to art school than after. Lately I've been trying to get back into it a little though so hopefully I can post some of what comes out of that.

I take that as a massive compliment, I love Marjane Satrapi's style. Thank you! :)

Ohh funfun. Illustrator? And how did you go about doing it? I assume you did a sketch of it then scanned it in and built on it?

I'm doing a lot in Drawing. I may end up with something I actually like and I'll post it if that ends up being the case.

It's a real place so first I went and took a bunch of pictures, from several angles because in reality there are way more trees, telephone poles, etc. blocking the view. Then I did a sketch in pencil, inked it, scanned it, cleaned it up in Photoshop, placed it in Illustrator and re-drew the whole thing using the original drawing as a guide.

Your color sense is stunning. I love how the trees' eyes seem focused on the central meditative figure, in contrast to the soulless skyscrapers behind. (Just looked up a few Hundtertwasser works, and the comparison is very fitting.)

You're welcome! Your work reminded me of something artistically significant; I kept trying to think what it was, and then I finally realized. Satrapi is an amazing graphic artist. And I think the comparison in your case is very fitting, as well.

Are you familiar with Chris Ware at all? He's an artist with a style that's kind of vaguely in the same ball park as Satrapi who you might like if you enjoy her stuff. His book Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth is beautiful, amazing, and heartbreaking. Here's one of the pages from it:

ribbons 03-27-2012 11:04 PM

Unfortunately I've never heard of Chris Ware - but his work looks even more similar to yours than Satrapi's with the colors and such. I'll definitely be looking for the Jimmy Corrigan book on your recommendation. Thanks! :)
