Well, of course he had alot of help, there were alot of brainwashed goons helping him, and he milked an angry country that never quite recovered from WWI... but ya know if you are the leader and figurehead of an anti semitic movement that was so dreadfully effective, you have to expect to get the credit...
It all comes down to the "man vs. the conditions of time" debate which rages on in all historical study... I tend to believe in Hitler's case it was a series of pre - conditions as well as the charisma of the man that whipped the country into a frenzy... Hitler needed Germany and Germany, ravaged by WWI needed a figurehead to tell them it was great again... and what better way to galvanise that than with an eeasy scapegoat to direct direct your national sense of anger...
The size, scope and monstrousity of all still sickens me though... and the one leaader who could have stopped it all with one word never even considered how wrong the whole philosophy was... he was either sick. psychopathic or stupid... it was all just a tragedy, and one which regardless of how the story is told leaves Hitler looking like absolute scum.
