no they are just little glass paddles. you press the hash/resin/whatever in between the two hot paddles and it vaporizes it.

and seriously? the weed that falls out of the ends of the joint, as in still green bud that hasn't seen flame? why don't you just put it back in the joint when you're rolling it...
