When people think the Netherlands, what's the first thing that comes to mind?
Amsterdam. If you are trying to tell me that it is not common to see pot smokers, and associate drugs in Amsterdam, and in some other part of the Netherlands, than I say you are just making assumptions. I swear I heard that same story about the 13 year old girl from an old teacher of mine. I am well aware that it is possible to have some damage done to your body due to marijuana, but there aren't many cases where someone actually smokes themselves stupid. Like said, there are some real dangers, but they are very minor compared to the statistics that they have to scare kids.

Example: Marijuana has been PROVEN to kill brain cells.

How did they find this, by testing it on monkeys. With gas masks, running smoke through them. What was killing the brain cells, not the Marijuana, but the fact that they were suffocating the damn things.

I have drunk quite a lot of beer in 'my time', but I've never gotten that drunk that I forgot what happened.
And sure, beer is probably as dangerous as marijuana.
The thing I'm baffled about is the fact that it seems as though you (well, xEMGx at least) don't know, or don't care.
Overhere everyone who does use drugs takes the health issues in consideration. It almost appears as if they're not there for you guys.

That brings me to the next thing, I've never really thought about this as I didn't know there's people who don't know about the downsides of drugs (to me that's something like now knowing why to have safe sex)... Could it be that, because drugs are legalized here, that the information you get here is way better?

I'm really shocked by the fact that it almost seems as if the only reason some people don't use drugs in the US, is because it's illegal. The reason most (and i mean like 90% of the people here) people don't use drugs overhere is that there's a certain risk connected to it.

In the meantime, feel free to do whatever you want.
But this just is something entirely new to me.
I've always been in the assumption that everyone was aware of the dangers of marijuana, alcohol... But that assumption seemed to be well... false.

I'll sleep on it now. It's 4:17am here. But I've definately learned something tonight ;D.

Another good example: for the longest time, people said ecstasy made holes in your brain. This was backed up by scans that came from a (supposedly) reputable doctor. Turns out he used a faulty machine that made it look like EVERYONE had holes in their brain and years later he had his medical license revoked (for a different reason).

Some people do react badly to weed, but nothing that causes permanent damage. Maybe the experience traumatized her and she may have needed help for that, but then again a 13 year old should not be smoking.
If it's bad for a 13 year old, how can it nog be bad for a 30 year old?

You are talking about drugs as if we all do them with no knowledge of the consequences at all.
Yeah well it kind of seems so

We all have a general idea of what a drug can do to us. I'm sure everyone posting in here knows that cocaine is addictive.
I don't care about the addiction, I care about the fact that too much can kill you.

Oh it sure is common and accepted to see pot smokers in Amsterdam. But that doesn't mean drugs are common here. It's legal, but still most people don't do drugs, most people even don't smoke.

I knew this girl myself. So it's not story I have been told by just someone. I had to deal with the consequences of what happened everytime she flipped out

I know man. Probably it's just the way you guys talk about it. I know most pot smokes try to take it easy on the weed because they know it can do some damage.
The way you talk about it, it sort of sounds like you smoke weed every hour or so.
Most pot smokers here smoke a few cigarettes a week, tops. Except for the ones who are thoroughly addicted and they usually are kind of ****ed up in other ways, too.

Again: I'm not trying to get you to stop using drugs or something. I'm just really amazed by the way you're talking about it. And at least on dutch internet forums, it's more of a taboo than here. I can assure you that.

Dude, have you seen how many questions I've had in the last couple of minute? I'm not ignoring anything, I was still busy thinking about an answer.

But thanks man, really appreciate that.
It's always nice to have a good discussion with a lot of mutual respect don't you think?

I hope you're not talking to me. Because if you are, you might want to read what I have said again. Not trying to stop you in any way, but the way the dutch look at drugs, is just very different from yours.
That's all I'm trying to explain.
No need to get rude here man. Doesn't make either of us any happier does it?

So you speak for all the Dutch people now do you?

The way YOU look at drugs is different, leave the Dutch out of this.

Well, you are talking to us like we are kids while we are all laying out fairly logical arguments. I extended the courtesy.
