Is it cool for guys to cry?

here's why i thought of this
yesterday i got in a little...tiffy with my boyfriend & was kind of pissed off at him & he pretty much assumed we were gonna break up & decided to leave me several messages on my voicemail, one of which he was crying in
now this isnt the first time ive heard/seen him cry & in a way i find it kind of endearing that hes not afraid to cry, being a guy & all
but im curious as to what is exactly is the right amount of crying a guy can do before people start considering him to be a total puss
i personally dont see anything wrong with it, although an excessive amount of male tears will probably make me uncomfortable
im very intrigued to see if any male members here have shed a tear or two without being ashamed of it
:)

jackhammer 10-10-2007 03:50 PM

My son whacked me dead on in the crackerjacks yesterday-I shed a few tears alright.

holdyoualways 10-10-2007 03:51 PM

haha i guess physical pain counts too :)

boys don't cry ~ robert smith.

Kevorkian Logic 10-10-2007 04:00 PM

I dislike it when boys cry.
It is not cute or endearing.
It makes me feel very uncomfortable.

I let every guy I date know this.

If a guy blubs at inconsequential things and is generally emotionally insecure, then it is not an attractive quality. If a man shed's a tear (not blubbing) when watching a certain movie or a genuinely distressing news story (child abuse etc). Then I think it's not a bad thing. I have done and have no qualms saying it either. Many females I have talked to find it enormously attractive if a man shows emotion.

Wayfarer 10-10-2007 04:11 PM

Well...it's never "cool" for anyone to cry, but yeah, it's only natural to cry at times, male or female.

cardboard adolescent 10-10-2007 04:14 PM

I would never grant someone that much insight into my emotions on principle.

jackhammer 10-10-2007 04:18 PM

I'm a complicated person. Posting that I shed a few tears wont give anybody and more insight into my personality than my music tastes have already proffered. That's if people gauge musical tastes as an indicator of personality traits that is!

Yea, I know many females feel that way. I've gotten in arguments about it with them. It's just an enormous turn-off to me for some reason. I'm not to big in the sharing/showing emotions part of life. It drives my bf crazy.

I bawled my arse off when my sons entered this world. If no woman finds that emotional they are beyond help!

Kevorkian Logic 10-10-2007 04:26 PM

I don't like kids.
no offense, i'm sure yours are great, I just have little patience with them.

holdyoualways 10-10-2007 04:28 PM

i hate kids as well & i find absolutely nothing beautiful about actual child labor but the result, seeing a human being that you created is beautiful & if i ever have kids (definetely not planning on it) i will probably bawl my eyes out as well & i HATE crying

omfg yes.

kids are seriously bull****,
when i was growing up, i never acted like a spoiled brat.
when adults were talking, i was actually quiet,
instead of trying to be the biggest prick of all time and get their attention.

I kind of find crying to be just another form of letting out frustration. Not a very attractive form, but a way of saying you can't take it anymore. Like a family member dies and you have to mourn, or your relationship with someone ends so suddenly and there's no chance of getting it back.

But if you're gonna cry for something stupid like if someone punches you in the arm too hard, I will call you a ***. <_< In this case, I see it as a sign of weakness. One rule I live by; never let them see you bleed.

youngjg 10-10-2007 06:32 PM

its okay for a dude to cry, depending on what its over. if u're in love and get ur heartbroken, i think that'll b enough grounds

Duke Of Slander 10-10-2007 06:47 PM

Serious emotional upheaval (family dying, suddn break up ect.) it's ok

Petty **** = puss

I haven't cried in a while, I get destructive when I'm angry, sad, ect. I prefer to put that energy into my pyromania :D

Why would it not be cool for a guy to cry is a better question.

Males are, usually, supposed to be the strong and invulnerable member of society for the weepy vulnerable women to come to to be held for comfort. That way, we can slip a little something something into their drink and let nature take it's course. But if we're crying, how the hell are we gonna get laid? Pity sex? NO THANKS!

thats the whole reason i made this thread
people have a judgement that men are supposed to be big & tough & not show any emotions & women are supposed to be fragile emotional time bombs
whereas in my case i go several months without crying, not even thinking about it, & hes cried to me a handful of times
i think peoples stereotypes of men & women are a little off but, eh, i digress

Just because you don't cry doesn't mean you're an emotionless robot; I, for instance, when I get overwhelmed, I throw stuff. I play drums, break a drumhead.

So as I say; Let the brick and mortar fall.

any man that can get that upset at the thought of losing me is worth holding onto, thank you very much

Kevorkian Logic 10-11-2007 02:20 PM

^he's worth getting rid of, imo.

Barnard17 10-11-2007 02:22 PM

No, he's a clingy ***got and when he starts to crowd you emotionally it'll be practically impossible to break it off. End it while you have a chance of him NOT stalking you afterwards.

Any man who cries, and he's not just taken a blow to the balls or is watching Gladiator (because that ****s ****ing poetic) is an emotionally fragile whore. No offense Ethan, I love you for it, but in most blokes it's just wrong.

DontRunMeOver 10-11-2007 02:54 PM

When I was 18 through the whole summer I would cry probably once every day. If there was something emotional on TV, I'd start blubbing; if I heard a really beautiful song a little tear would well in the corner of my eye, build into a large drop and fall down my cheek. It was like I'd gone through some emotional transition and was suddenly in touch with the world in a more meaningful way than I ever had been before. It was like this every day from the moment I woke up to the second my eyes closed at night.

Then my course of anti-malarial Mefloquine* was over and so were the feely feelings. As were the hallucinations, insomnia and chicane-like way of walking. To put it simply, I was no longer insane.

Emotions are for girls, no man ever built a bridge or a fighter jet or a submarine out of emotions. Does Mr T cry? NO.

Ever seen the end of Flags of Our Fathers, that was beautiful.

However I stopped crying when I realized I haven't spoken with my father for a reason. I was crying that people so willingly died with honor for people who could care less... I stopped because it reminded me of the **** that I am forced to be attributed to.

But to be on topic:
I would never cry around or for people, I deal with too much **** to even acknowledge the rest of humanity.

holdyoualways 10-11-2007 05:37 PM

so im taking it that its pretty much the general consensous of the men on this forum (as well as some chicks) that crying is for girls & girls only & that men should never shed a single tear or show any ounce of emotion...ever
well, thats nice that we all have robots here

Kevorkian Logic 10-11-2007 08:10 PM

I don't think crying is really ok for girls either. It's really unattractive no matter the gender.

cardboard adolescent 10-11-2007 08:12 PM

Seriously, I hate it when chicks cry. Especially drunken crying, because then you really have no reason to feel sympathetic and just want them to shut the **** up.

Laces Out Dan! 10-11-2007 08:46 PM

When girls start crying at parties for stupid reasons..I dump beer on them.
