I don't really understand this mentality

Yes, of course as a photo is going to be more reliable as evidence, and often recollection can be coloured by shock. That would be my first response too, I don't think it's callous as people think it is, it's smart.

There is a particular value to it, of course, but so many people were thinking the exact same thing - I mean, sure, it's their job, but at least someone had to have been scared or even slightly disturbed.
