In a Best Drummer thread:

Quote:
I agree that Ringo shouldn't be mentioned.

But Martin Lopez of Opeth is a great drummer. He has a lot more than the double bass blasting. I'm not a drummer, but his drumwork is always interesting. Grand Conjuration off their new album, has some of my favourite drumwork.

If you're after great metal drummers, I'd look at the latin/jazz trained/influenced ones such as Lopez. Jazz/Metal combo is cool.
I still agree with that.

haha. yeah, i think 97% of music sucks **** because nobody is willing to cleanse their minds of the last 100 years of popular music. so if you start approaching music from a cro-magnon point of view, thats when you start to get into some interesting stuff! can you dig on that, man? i make music myself and i can say that there is alot of influence from the 20th century in there, but my ultimate goal is to make an album devoid of any influence other than decent timing and the sun, the stars and the earth. maybe i'll get there and maybe i won't. thats just my take on the direction of good and modern music. we've always gone backwards, lets just take it way back! thanks for listening and please don't try to argue. there is no argument here.

My thoughts of Coheed and Cambria....

But, to the point of the thread, my friend introduced them to me about a year and a half ago and up to this day I still hate Claudio's voice with a passion and I want to cut his hair. I saw a picture of the band and he had short hair, it really wasn't bad. But the music they create is great. Guitars are amazing(I believe they have 2, claudio and another, correct me if I'm wrong). But there are better bands out there.

As well as being true/meaningful/insightful etc. with your lyrics, it can really help to throw in a few unique phrases to grab people's attention and keep them thinking. For example, saying "I love you" to somebody may be a very meaningful experience in everyday life but used within a song its generally going to be an unimaginative cliche. So you have to find another way to express these ideas, a new way which ideally uses words in a way which is rarely heard and which the listener or reader might appreciate you having brought to them.

Sorry I was just about to give examples, but I'm deing dragged off to lunch...

Yes he was/is a true MusicBanter legend.

I only managed the first paragraph, before the word "cunt" entered my head.
