The Jews are the Chosen People, and they get treated like crap by God. Then, the Xtians come along, hijack their god, reedit and remaster the Old Testament, amend that group of books with their own set of newer books (some of which are later removed), and improve God's image thanks to new PR agents, right? Would your idea of "bad research" be to read the Bible literally and/or to read books that reference it in history?

Well, look up Jn 2.16, Jesus flips out and has a huge temper trantrum at the sight of people handing out collection plates, whipping people. Isn't expressing anger suposed to be a sin?
How about when Jesus ran away from home when he was 12, not even informing Mary and Josepth of his wherabouts? (Lk 2.48). How about forbidding someone from attending their own fathers funeral? (Mt 8.22). What about killing thousands of someone elses livestock? (Mk 5.13). Or taking 6 huge water vats that are used for purification purposes and fill them with a hundred gallons worth of wine? (Jn 2.6). At one point he even told children not to respect their elders, in direct contrast to the ten commandments. (Mt 8.22, Lk 14.26). Last edited by boo boo; 07-09-2007 at 05:34 PM. |

Or, here's a biggie: He lied about his station. Before the Bible was edited down into the KJV; before the Douay bible; even before the Latin Vulgate; when Xtianity was being formed, there was another God above the one that is featured in the Old Testament (and, later, in the New Testament).
The God that everyone talks about is only a creator of the physical universe and being blind and ignorant of his origin, was deluded into thinking that He was alone. He was also considered to be evil, as he had created the universe and all material was considered to be evil. Let's say that the Gnostics weren't a very happy bunch. But, this was considered part of Xtian doctrine until competing factions had decided to destroy most of these writings to further their agenda. Nothing like a good coverup to make Him look good after a few millennia.

I don't find much validity in Gnosticism.
However, some Gnostics believed that the old testament and new testament gods are completely different gods. The old one being Demiurge. That kinda makes sense, and would explain why in the new testament god seems like a nice guy, but in the old testament he's such an asshole. However. The Gnostics believe that everything is evil, which is just stupid. Regardless of what translation of the Bible it is, it just seems like a bunch of inconsistant bullcrap. I don't find much validity in Christanity, but whether or not the Xtians admit it (most don't), it was born out of Gnosticism.

The NT god may seem like a nicer guy than he was before, but he still has his moments.
