@jackhammer.

The moderators here are of all ages, come from different cultures and have different tastes in music.
A few of us share some similarities, but we are no different from the average poster when it comes to opinions.
It's true we don't always see eye to eye and have been known to thrash out our conflicts, quite strongly, behind the scenes in the mod lounge on occasions.

With the exception of matious, all the mods have been members of MB for 2 years, or more and we have got to know each other quite well, which I think is one of the major factors we freely speak our minds to each other.
I believe this to be a good thing.
The one most important issue we do have in common, is the interest and betterment of MusicBanter.

It's my opinion that the current mod team is the best this site has had over the years and with a bit more arguing and a few more disagreements, the mod team, like the forum, can only improve.

I have to say I'm a little surprised to hear Jackhammer say this. I haven't been a mod for long and I try to visit as much threads as I can, but I honestly haven't seen really venomous discussions lately, certainly not ones that needed intervening (am I going numb?). So I have to agree with big3 here and ask for specific examples, through PM if you want. I think we all want to better this place, but we'll also need help from regular users, show us what we're doing wrong...

I am a member of a few forums (music and films are my love), and I have been surprised by some of the vitriol directed at each other in here. Of course we all think we all know better than the other when it comes to our favourite subject, but we can always learn something new every day.

Judging by some of the infantile arguments between some of the mods iv'e read..sh[i]t..put me forward. i'd ban half of you as soon as look at you!

please mods-show an aptitude for your role.
Sorry if I'm just butting my way into this discussion, but I've got a few things to say about this.

Where do you get the impression that we cannot work together?

First off, if the mod team didn't argue...this place would be a dictatorship. Conflicting opinions are what "make the world go 'round" so to speak. Infantile? Please....point this out... I've been a moderator here for longer than the majority of the current team, and, as right-track said, this is probably the best team so far, at least since I have been a mod. (I don't, of course, mean any disrespect to any of my former colleagues)

I have fought with almost every member of the mod team. Adidasss was extremely unhappy with the fact that I became a moderator when I did. Do I hold the things he said then against him? No. I have bickered numerous times with Big3 (before the two of us were mods), and our arguments always end up in a compromise for the better. Just recently I got in an argument with Crowquill over an issue on which we had opinions that were nothing short of polar opposites. Does it affect my ability to work with him? No. Why? Because through argument, we get to know each other and how each one of us thinks.

The mods have to argue to stay on the same page. We have to argue our own opinions and discuss them in order for the team to operate uniformly in terms of policies. If you would like to have a mod team where each mod operates totally independently of each other, then by all means let us know.

It isn't the moderators job to CREATE discussion. That's the job of the members.....like you. It's the moderators job to preserve a clean environment for open discussion. However, that is not an easy job when the members are not willing to contribute to the discussion in a positive manner. The team of moderators cannot be held responsible for the attitudes and actions of the entire community, though it seems as though that's the way you see it. In order for clean, healthy discussion to be held, those who participate in said discussion need to be capable of basic conversational etiquette. They need to be capable, and willing, to contribute more than just some fucking bullshit like "WORST BAND EVER" or "OMG, THEY ROCK!!!". Posts need to be insightful and creative. If people are posting nothing but "THEY SUCK", how is any form of conversation supposed to build off of that? Give opinion, give argument for your opinion, and when someone has a conflicting opinion....let it turn into a civilized discussion....not a ****slinging contest. If you don't like someones taste in music, don't just respond to their posts to tell them that they listen to crappy music...that does nothing but clutter the boards. When someone starts a thread about a band that you don't like....why even bother going INTO the thread, much less posting in it, unless you are willing to give an opinion and back it up with legitimate arguments, not just crap like "BECAUSE THEY SUCK".

Having been a member here for as long or even longer than a large number of the regulars, I've been here through many of the hard times this site has had. We have fewer spammers than we've had in a long time, the forums are becoming more and more active, and we have more people joining daily than we've had in quite a while.

Ultimately, the MEMBERS of the forum are the ones responsible for the "battlefield" that ensues, and they can do far more than the mod team can to change MusicBanter for the better.

I'm not singling out jackhammer alone here. I hope every regular, and every new member reads this post and responds to it, either directly or by trying to better the forums by promoting intelligent discussion.

So I say, members, please show an aptitude for your role as well.

I can see a lot of good points being made here, and maybe I have misread some situations. The major one being that I did'nt know that half of the posters in this thread were moderators! That would account for my misunderstanding as to when things get a little heated I mistook some posters for members NOT moderators. Perhaps something more than your nickname in bold to denote your mod status?

I have done none of these things and back up my opinions with my reasoning, whether it's valid or not.

If I caused any offence-I apologise. I do think the mod's should warn some on the boards who are being offensive for the sake of it-I wont name names, but I have seen many pointless post's that correspond with your statement above.

Thankyou for your time to read this and am glad to be a part of a community that has showed me some new music already.

Report the posts/users you see, and I think the bold name is really enough and you can always click view forum leaders too.

That'll be the mushie member. That was a real row and a half.

There is a lot of work goes on that members don't see.
I'd say a large proportion of the moderating goes on via PM's...asking members to chill a little, along with the odd infraction warning.

jackhammer, you seem like a knowledgeable member and I hope you stick around.
