the philosophy thread

you can come on here and talk about anything you like.
I'll talk about heavy or overweight people in this country. What is the deal with them?
Do they completely lack in self control?
Or does society have some part to play in it?
Well, I've read that many people who are overweight are victims of childhood molestation. They eat a lot and become purposefully unattractive, so they won't be seen as objects of sexual desire, after such a traumatizing experience.
That said, what about the individuals who are overweight and weren't molested?
Well, maybe a lot of them do lack in self control, and many overcompensate for their empty feeling inside, by overeating.
Here's another theory for you, and this I believe does pertain to some of them.
They say, everything in the world serves a purpose, so what purpose is it serving us to have overweight and obese people to look at?
It seems that as long as we need people to judge for one reason or another, they will be there for us.
Some people need the reassurance that there are more disgusting, more revolting people out there than themselves to help their own self-esteem.
In our sex obsessed society, I'm sure a lot of the chubs pack on the pounds, and think, 'fine, you think whatever you want about me,' and then are able to live probably happier lives than weight obsessed paper-thin models.
I believe there is truth to it's what's inside that matters.
If we didn't need to see overweight people, then we could be happy, and not really even notice them, and then, if we did, we could at least be more sympathetic, and not be so forthcoming in poking fun at them.

riseagainstrocks 04-15-2007 01:12 PM

Fat people are disgusting. 99.9% of them are fat due to their diet and lack of exercise. Pathetic (the .1% are overweight due to medical conditions such as Diabetes, in which case I forgive them)

TheUsedToolguy 04-15-2007 01:26 PM

Yes, but do you enjoy calling them disgusting?
And if not, then can you at least admit the reason they're overweight is because they're unhappy, and be more sympathetic to their suffering?

cardboard adolescent 04-15-2007 01:26 PM

wtf do fat people have to do with philosophy

adidasss 04-15-2007 01:39 PM

My question exactly...methinks someone thinks much of himself...

Are you some sort of fucking retard or something?

They're overweight because they eat. IF they're unhappy, take up bulimia or anorexia.

Yes, but why do they eat so much? I believe it was Fat Bastard that said, "I eat because I'm unhappy, and I'm unhappy because I eat."
Of course, in the first post I alluded to the possibility that some fat people can lead very happy lives.
Some people were born in an environment that was very conducive to them being overweight individuals. Their parents buy nasty, unhealthy food, and let them eat a lot of candy. Then, once they become heavy, it becomes very difficult to break out of that mold. I don't think too much of myself. I believe I could be a very heavyset person, born in different circumstances.
One key, though, is we all need to stop judging them so much, if we did that, we would free them up to live happy, healthy lives.
So, to some degree, I'm saying that people who make fun of fatties are the reason that people are fat.:pimp:

You mean people like you? You know, I didn't really read your posts before this but now I definitely see what others are talking about. You're a fucking retard and a bigot to boot. People aren't fat because they're unhappy, they're fat because they have a genetic predisposition to being fat. They eat a lot because they're hungry a lot. How fucking stupid can you be?? Not to mention hypocritical and contradicting in the space of one post. "I think those fat disgusting people should be given a break, they're people too" bullshit?? Fucking degenerate... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Merkaba 04-15-2007 02:25 PM

Some fat people annoy me. I mean, all the fat people I know seem to think it's a diet that will save them, they use point systems and carb intake measurements and all that. They still don't do anything to burn the fat off that they've already got. I keep thinking to myself, stop punishing yourselves with bland food and some shit diet, it's the lack of physical activity. You think they'd have learnt from programs such as the Biggest Loser that it's not all about the food consumption.

TheUsedToolguy 04-15-2007 02:26 PM

No, adidass, you're a doush. The majority of fat people can lose the weight. They're not predisposed to a life of obesity. It's just very difficult to do, like quitting smoking.
Everyone else on MB, "TUTG's a f*cking j*ckass, gaw, what an idiot, gaw, what a loser"
What they really mean, "Jeez, I'm really gonna have to change because there are some people who can recognize my sadistic transference tendencies."

Yes, logically speaking, they should watch the calories, and trans fat and stuff like that, but the question is, Why are these individuals so much more apt to eating these things? I don't think you can blame it solely on a lack of willpower. It goes back to their childhood.
Plus, when other people, like family, and schoolkids call them 'fat' it becomes ingrained in their head, like that's their identity.

And I said they couldn't where exactly? You speak of causes of fat, I told you what it was. The reason why they stay fat is because losing weight is an incredibly hard thing to do, I know because I've been eating right and working out and still can't get a six pack to show, and I'm a skinny fucking bitch! Now let's just try to imagine what kind of feat that would be for an obese person. There is nothing worse than an asshole talking down to people who had it worse than him. It makes me want to punch you in the face and wipe that smugness right off.

Can we PLEASE institute bans based on stupidity? I'm having an Oojay flashback...

TheUsedToolguy 04-15-2007 02:42 PM

Adidass, you're an insult to people who like RATM, for being such an ignorant jackass. You stated in the previous post that people have a genetic predisposition to being fat.
Also, you said you don't read my posts, which is obvious, because the whole time, I was saying that I could have been easily born into their shoes, I'm not looking down at them.
Arguing with you is like arguing with a 6 year old. I could make you feel really dumb, but why would I want to, you're just not that smart. And yes, I feel sorry for people of your caliper as well.

Actually it's calibre, for the context in which you used the word for.

Random side point, you have to have fat initially to get defined muscle, so if you are already really skinny it's going to be hard to get a defined six pack.

I only know that because there is a guy in my grade who used to be slightly chubby, and now he has defined rock solid abs, like you feel the lines of indention when you touch them, which is just really...anyhow that's how he said he got them, turning his excess fat into muscle.

And I have no opinion on the Philosophy(?) of fat people. It doesn't really affect me, so I don't care.

Here's another topic: Why do teens almost always rebel against their parents?

Well, the teen age is one where the person is in a transitional state. They're about to break free from the reliance of their parent's and become independent. Your parents still want to parent you, those last few years before you move out, because no matter how much you grow up, they will always be your parents. People should feel privileged to be able to rebel, because that probably means your parents are trying to control you, which at least means they care.
Parents must learn to draw the line, and let their kids become their own person at some point. But, before they draw the line, or before you move out, they want to instill their beliefs into you.
Also, recent scientific studies have shown that the teenager's brain isn't as advanced as once thought, and most teens have an unstoppable need to fit in, and resisting peer pressure is virtually impossible for most of them.
Heh, now I don't feel as bad.

right-track 04-15-2007 03:03 PM

caliper

/kalipr/ (also calliper)

• noun 1 (also calipers) a measuring instrument with two hinged legs and in-turned or out-turned points. 2 a motor-vehicle or bicycle brake consisting of two or more hinged components. 3 a metal support for a person’s leg.

calibur...no such word.

Kevorkian Logic 04-15-2007 03:06 PM

dude. A speaker at my school came to speak to students about the brain and rebellion, all that ****. Not really a philosophy issue again.

All I got from it was don't drink, have sex instead. And masturbate until you pass out, then continue masturbating when you wake up.

Christ TheUsedToolGuy can you quit fucking speaking for entire groups of people? I didn't have a great childhood and i'm way too thin, I have a friend whos had a way worse childhood then me and hes just as thin as I am, though he is bigger.

Fat people are fat because they're lazy and eat too much. I don't care how shitty your childhood was, you're lazy and you eat too much your childhood won't change that. I'm tired of people blaming they're issues on a bad childhood, I doubt anyone has had a perfect childhood. Seriously "lolz don't send me to jail for killing 17 people I had a bad childhood! Put me in a therapy center that is basically a resort!"

And as for teenagers having an unstoppable need to fit in? Bull, I know alot of people who don't feel any need to fit in, stop with the sweeping generalizations.

Is your next bit of "philosophy" going to be on all black people being thugs and people from the south loving incest?
