I need a moral dilema

I need a moral dilema that i can use to discuss from different moral points of view, such as deontology. I need a specific case, any ideas?

DontRunMeOver 01-18-2007 10:16 AM

You can see that your mother is about to push Jeffery Archer from the top floor of a building. You are standing at the bottom and only have a sniper rifle.

What should you do?

littleknowitall 01-18-2007 10:36 AM

something that actually happened?

cardboard adolescent 01-18-2007 10:42 AM

What about that scene in Spiderman where he has to choose between saving Mary Jane or the bus full of small children? Eh? That actually happened.

littleknowitall 01-18-2007 10:54 AM

actually that might do.

adidasss 01-18-2007 10:57 AM

Serves you right for trying to get a serious answer from this lot.

Maybe the case of Terry Schiavo or Piergiorgio Welby.

littleknowitall 01-18-2007 10:59 AM

that works perfect, (the second one) thankyou very much....

Barnard17 01-18-2007 03:46 PM

Heres my suggestion:

If someone was hypnotised, and the hypnotist had sex with them, yet they were compliant, would it be rape if they're not mentally damaged afterwards?

Is that a real dilemma even? Of course it's not rape, the bitch asked for it!

Barnard17 01-18-2007 04:05 PM

But what if she didn't choose to be hypnotised?

cardboard adolescent 01-18-2007 04:39 PM

Hypnotism is bull**** anyway, so as far as I'm concerned there's no difference between consenting while hypnotized and consenting regularly.

right-track 01-18-2007 04:42 PM

No it's not...I've been hypnotised.

If your not in your natural frame of mind,

ie; psychotic...your not responsible for your actions. Surely?

but with that logic then if you can be drunk, say yes, and it be considered rape. It was your choice to be hypnotized. It was your choice to drink.

It's true that if you don't want to be hypnotised (as far as i am aware) then you can't be made to go under.

However, if your hypnotised under false pretenses, lets say for arguments sake, that it was for therapy and were then raped or abused while under deep hypnosis, then where's the choice?

Oh C'MON!! There is no fucking way anyone can get hypnotized and I will fight you on this to the last breath. How can a man such as yourself allow himself to get under the influence of another and (supposedly) not be in control of his actions?? NO fucking way...

swim 01-18-2007 04:54 PM

The only thing is that while you were having sex you were fine with it and that kind of puts a barrier for me of how you can consider it rape. Because it is a different mind set.

edit: And would the same apply for trauma and being used? If at the time of an odd mindset you consented, got over the situation and, realized you wouldn't have normally done it.

You can if you allow yourself to be.
I can do it to myself...not in a long time though.

As for not being able to do anything to help yourself while hypnotised...I admit I wouldn't know for sure as I've never been in that situation.

Edit: Hahaha ...do you think I was hypnotised and abused?

Numpty's

You surprise me, being a woman and all I would have thought you'd be more sensitized to the issue of rape. Even if one is under the influence, no means no to use the tired old cliche. If you're not able to fully control your actions, if you're not in full mental capacity, you're not guilty of anything, which is why it's considered an extenuating circumstance for various offenses.

Ok, describe the experience.

Barnard17 01-18-2007 05:06 PM

Adidasss, buy this. Derren Brown is a hypnotist who doesn't believe in hypnosis. Along with hypnosis he also touches on hypnosis, magic and loads more. Interesting read, completely disillusioned from any "truthiness" in magic existing.

Only in a PM...personal shit.

Edit @ Fal...the Heist was amazing.

Barnard17 01-18-2007 05:12 PM

17th June, a show in Bristol Hippodrome <3

I'm there :)

adidasss 01-18-2007 05:15 PM

Wassthis? Heist what? I WANNA KNOW DAMN YOU!!

Barnard17 01-18-2007 05:20 PM

Derren Brown used neuro-linguistic programming and some other visual techniques to make a bunch of bean pushers attempt to steal £150k from a security van with nothing but a waterpistol, without realising that that was what they were going to do (they thought they were just out for a stroll). Hypnosis, without all the "deep sleep" bull****.

Ok, so how could he do that? Guess the rock, paper, scissors thing? I might need to actually buy that book.

right-track 01-18-2007 05:39 PM

You need to see Fals last post.

Easy to say when you've watched it explained.

adidasss 01-18-2007 07:54 PM

True, but still, a few taps on the hand and you can make anyone think what you want them to think? Skeptical I am.

Barnard17 01-19-2007 08:18 AM

You did watch the last minute of the clip right?

adidasss 01-19-2007 08:35 AM

Yeah, that's where I saw the taps on the hand.
