"A-tissue a-tissue we all fall down" refers to the pneumonic plague, which was a strand of the bubonic plague spread through sneazing. Similar to consumption in that you generally died coughing up blood. Posies down to the fact they believed disease to be spread by foul smelling miasma, and thus overpowering the smell symbolised the expulsion of the disease carrying air and thus they walked around with all sorts of stinky **** on their personage. |
Couldnt you also get the plague just by touching someone that had it.[my tumach twisted in knotts when i found out about this]
|
Erm ... no that's bull****. The plague was spread through blood - bacteria (bubonic), so no swallowing puss or blood, and no getting bitten by fleas. It was also spread through airborne spores (pneumonic) from coughing.
