To begin with, I'd say post punk at the most.

I actually liked the early stuff and they only survived by reinventing themselves, despite Bono's efforts at being a twat.

Just the sight of him warbling on about whatever he's into at the time, is enough to put me off.
I can understand why people hate this man.
