I was hoping this thread would provide an opportunity for the Americans here to understand the English psyche. Not the differences between football codes.
To understand what football means to an Englishman, is to understand the English. Personally I think we have an unfair advantage when it comes to understanding foriegn cultures. American culture is understood by the English, more than ours is by the average American. Your T.V. programmes are piped through our screens on a daily basis, not just in England, but around the world. This thread isn't about the differences in our national sports, but more about the differences in our cultures. |

I think the people who are into football in the U.S. support other international teams hence the lack of interest in football over there itself.

I say with all honesty, that this was the most defining moment of my entire life. With the exception of the birth of my son...nothing came close. Even to this day, those words..."Manchester United have reached the promised land", make the hairs on my head stand on end and bring tears to my eyes. |

I was at this game, best I've ever been at. When you beat a team you don't except to beat it's just the best thing ever. The party afterwards was something else as well! The pride, the atmosphere, the celebrations...I think you need to experience it before you can fully understand what football is all about. The same probably applies to American Football, but I can't imagine it'd produce anything like the same intensity as stuff like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-i9m...elated&search= And what's with the title of this? It's not just the English that are so into football you know. On that note, here's a cool video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8v4o...elated&search= |

Football has always been a big part of life for my family.
We have kind of a Rivalry because I support Chelsea (Shut up R-T), Dad supports Tottenham (Vomit) and my brother supports the Gunners...and it's always a good family occasion when one is playing the other. But when it comes to the international games and the best of the best all get on the pitch, united for their country, nothing comes close. Nothing. |
