You are aware that 'soccer' is an abbreviation of Association Football , right?

then why dont you all call it "association football" instead of just "football"? wouldnt want anyone to get confused over something soooo important. and the story about only using the "soc" from "association football" and just adding a "cer" at the end seems a bit dodgy. and if the name was first coined at oxford university, that means its of british origin, not a term that us silly americans came up with. so maybe you all should call it "soccer" after all?. either way, youd think that other countries besides the US would be able to come up with a better game than footbal/association football/soccer/etc. it may be your all's bread and butter over in england, but i just dont understand what the big deal about it is. but i guess that just confirms the main idea of the thread.
