I'm sorry, do I have to send a Get Well card to the guy in the hospital before I can have an opinion? This is the reason that America has such a huge amount of deaths from accidental shootings. Someone gets shot and everyone's reaction is "Oh well, it's happened to a lot of people."

Default hispanics

One thing is for sure!! THERE ISN'T A RACE called "hispanic" cos there isn't a continent of that name.

When are people in america going to stop calling themselves and others hispanics as a race? People confuse a RACE with CULTURE. The people who are termed hispanic in america are just LATIN AMERICANS and that includes portuguese, french, italians, spanish and romanians, those are the correct names for latin race, to be specific, they all talk latin origin languages in europe. Hispanic is a new word made by north americans since the 80s for the spanish talkers, it doesn't make a race. The situation is so silly that people are really confused calling themselves hispanics as a race. We don't invent a race for people who talk english, german or russian, it seems this group goes into whites or cucasian

I dont understand why America is racist? They shipped the African Americans over as slaves, and when they were released, after the civil war I believe, they still beat the black people down, call the m nig**er. Brings a thought to the song 'Im afraid of Americans.'
You should all watch an old tv series called Roots. Really says allot about this topic.
So all americans are racist? A Minor Threat song comes to mind right now...

It is in my opinion that racism isn't a plague that can be pinned solely on America. I believe that it is existent in every civilization that has existed... ever. It is not an American thing, but rather, a human thing. I'm glad someone else brought it up, because sometimes I feel like people just love attributing America with every problem the world has... it's always easy to take shots at the biggest kid on the block though, so I'm not surprised.

The title of the thread though IS Racism IN America... so I guess we should be talking about it here - heh. I think everyone is capable of being racist... whites towards blacks, blacks towards whites, towards muslims, asians, spanish - etc. etc. etc... and it's everywhere, like I said before...

and call me a pessimist... I believe it will always exist - so long as there are different colored people in the world. And say we all turn the same color in the futurer... somehow... people will find a way to discriminate... it's the human way. That still doesn't make it right... and I don't think anything can.

In England, there are quite a few racist people in my school.
I try my best to enlighten their thick skulls i really, really do.
I've given up on lots of friendships because someone is racist,
they're just not the kind of person I want to have a relationship with.

America doesn't scream 'racist' to me.
And it certainly is a widespread thing, difference brings hatred, but we're all the same.

It really isnt just white or black now. It's everything else and more.

I'm impressed at how you can get jumped up about people hating on Asians, Arabs and Latinos stating that "it's not just white or black now" while ignoring the (really rather minor) fact that people can be racist towards whites as well.

Racism in america should never be tolerated because it's just like being picked on in school but it is just alot worse.

People in america should never let people be racist because it can be brought up to a hefty crime and you will be filled with quilt for as long you can think of.

Never be racist because it is a bad thing.

They claim more racism in institution rather than in person these days. To quote the DBT:

"Racism is a worldwide problem, and
it's been like that since the beginning of recorded history and
it ain't just white and black, but thanks to George Wallace, it's
always a little more conveinent to play it with a southern
accent."

The racism in america is the racism in your country, from the ignorant petulent children who grew old but never up.

Someday they will die off.

I respect your opinion, Rain Dog, but sadly, racism will never die. It's been around forever, and as long as those people who grow old but not up continue to procreate, they will pass their ignorance on to their children.

My own personal opinion is racism is in fact, rampant. It's ignorance, plain and simple.

I am glad no one has used the term 'reverse racism' in this thread. That drives me nuts. LOL. Racism is racism, period. If you're one race, and don't like another race, soley because of their race, that's racism. 'Reverse racism', as best I can figure, would be hating your own race.

It angers me that during the race riots and even before, back to Rosa Parks and those people, minorities fought and died for nothing more than to be treated equally. These trailblazers fought for desegregation, equal rights, the right to vote, etc, etc, etc.

And since then, what have minorites done? Segregated themselves. Black colleges, black film awards, black music awards, black caucus, etc, etc, etc. It's a direct slap in the face of any minority who stood up for the right to be treated the same as whites, in my opinion. People fail to see that this, also, is a form of racism. Imagine a 'white music awards', or whatever. What would that be called? Exactly.

Everyone, and I mean everyone, myself included, has been guilty of racism at one point or another in their lives. Regardless of their color.

On a side note, another thing that drives me crazy is people insisting on being called African American. Or Irish American, or German American, whatever.

Unless one of your parents was born in America, and one in Africa, you are not African American. You're American. Same goes for any country. My Grandmother was German. My Grandfather was Irish. Both my parents were born in American. Regardless of my bloodlines, I'm American.
