Am I the only person who thinks pot is only illegal because they can't effectively tax it?

Merkaba 10-05-2006 07:35 PM

Nah, health boards and mothers go nuts over it too, you'd upset a few sectors in society.

And if they did legalise it, you'd see it in shops which is easily taxable.

Tobacco lobyists, rich paper manufacturers, and discrimination against Mexicans is how it started.

There actually is a tax on marijuana, if you have marijuana in a bag without a marijuana tax stamp affixed to it they can also get you for tax evasion (no bull****).

Lobbyists are the main force keeping it illegal, though conservativism isn't helping the situation out much.

Mothers and health boards havent made cigs and alcohol illegal which I really don't see to be on a different level. You could grow it yourself which isn't [easily or effectively] taxible. Sure you could moonshine but getting to tobacco ready for your own personal use is just uneconimical.

Well, mothers did succeed in making alcohol illegal once upon a time (prohibition?) and that turned out great (the mafia), but at least then they had a reason, seeing as how their husbands would go out, get drunk, then come home and beat them. I don't think too many guys are going out, getting stoned, and then beating their wives/girlfriends.

But yeah, people are uptight and uninformed and I don't really see that changing too much anytime soon.

The quality would go well down and the price would go well up if marajuana was to become legal anyways, so it's better as it is now.
