maybe just tab some basic chords, open c, d, a minor. ask them what kind of music they like, so you can get them easy sheet music for them to muck around with, so they enjoy themselves instead of just screwing around with a bunch of chords to a song they don't know, or like. teach them those old finger exercises, (going up the neck till 12th fret, fret by fret).
tell all your students to bring a tape so you can record important parts of the lesson so they dont forget how a song goes, or tips you might give them during the lesson, and a exercise book with staves. also, ask them to write up a list of songs they would like to learn for the next lesson. you can get sheet music from guitar books, make up a little inventory of sheet music, kept in alphabetical order in bands and photocopy the tabs for people who want them. have some spare change not everyone is gonna bring exact money. remember to make you students feel welcome, let them borrow some albums you like, dvds, develop a friend relationship with them so they are more comfortable playing in front of you and asking questions about guitar they might be embarrased to ask. |

respect with students is a big thing with teaching. if you don't have that, you might as well stop if you want to be a decent guitar teacher and are not doing it just for the money. first day though, so you cant expect huge progress, again just be real friendly and diplomatic towards their musical tastes.
