Relativly Important

I've given up drinking and smoking of all kinds for the next 6 months.

After XC camp, I realized that I am really good at running. Like really good. Like 5 miles in 27 minutes good. Like 16:30 5K if I train good.

So I'm getting serious about it and giving up my vice. This will be hard :(

sleepy jack 08-04-2006 10:21 PM

I hope that goez well gee.

swim 08-04-2006 10:23 PM

Good luck with it.

Reznorslave 08-04-2006 10:23 PM

Good luck, I've tried to quit smoking three or four times. It always lasts a week and then I have a bad day at work or something and well, yeah. Buy a lot of gum and good luck!

MURDER JUNKIE 08-04-2006 10:32 PM

Nobody likes a quitter :p:

Blain 08-04-2006 10:39 PM

Good luck with that, if it doesn't work and ya wanna try again maybe do them one at a time eh? It might be too much pressue to do both at the same time

5 miles in 27 minutes is rather impressive.
what kind of terrain was it?
Steep incline, hill, sharp curves? what?

Good luck quitting your vices.

riseagainstrocks 08-04-2006 10:47 PM

lightly hilly, packed gravel. moderate curves.

Come to Philly.
I'm on the track team and there's something here called suicide lane.

If you can finish it in less than 13 minutes your fast

riseagainstrocks 08-04-2006 10:49 PM

..okay?

Once you reach the top of the first hill, you have to slow down. Sucide lane is well known for the fact that after each hill you have to slow down or you go caulting over the hill and land in some nasty bushes.

what are you in a rally car? No one runs that fast. Cresting is part of running.

at the top of each hill there's a curve or a clearing.
if you don't slow down you run off the paved ground and onto the clearing.
or if you get the curb you run into trees or bushes.

so, help me to understand what about this "suicide lane" would prove someone to be a fast runner....it sounds like the only difficult thing about it is that there are a few unexpected sharp corners, which would never be a problem in a xc race, since no one would be full on sprinting in order to pace themselves, and unless you're high/drunk/blind or all three you'd be able to adjust your direction accordingly in order to stay on the path.

what the hell is a XC path? and those kind of endurance running things are stupid.

MURDER JUNKIE 08-05-2006 04:36 AM

Cross-Country

Simply because you cannot do it does not make it stupid.

Alo 08-05-2006 08:33 AM

Good luck! What age are you? (I want to estimate whether you'll keep to it. xD)

suicide lane i rathe rugged terrian. a good deal of the trail is dirt and the rest is cement.
It's easy to get lost in it after the dirt part of the trail ends. Sharp curves and turns. Nobody likes it because it's easy to tri over anything or run into a clearing. Or get lost.
At my school frshmen or noobs to track or even cross country have to run this trail. it's sorta like initiation.

Zealious 08-07-2006 04:00 PM

Good luck with that. Dont forget post work out shakes 2:1 ratio carbs/protein after every run. It'll significantly improve your times.

riseagainstrocks 08-07-2006 06:30 PM

I'm 17

and thanks for the advice Zealious

If you can't stop drinking and doing drugs for a short amount of time you should really give up at life.

Ytse Jam 08-08-2006 01:58 AM

Giving up smoking's easy... I've done it thousands of times

...did anybody else find that to be a little bit of an oxymoron?

DearJenny 08-08-2006 09:55 AM

^lol, yes!

I'm quitting both as well. Not because I run or anything, but because cigs taste gross and I'm tired of feeling hungover for two days. I'm going straightedge.
