I'm about 75% Irish and Scottish Grandfather from my fathers side came from Ireland and Great Grandmother from my mother's side brought in Scottish heritage. So my hertitage is strictly English, Scottish and Irish. I'm so obviously Irish though. The freckles, the fair skin, the short temper. And damn it I CANNOT tan, I just burn like hell in the sun! And I'm northern Irish and my last name is a derivitive(spelling?) of the Scottish Oglivy.

If it was my choice, I wouldnt be. I would move to Europe. I am ashamed to be called American. This is how the country has turned out.

But I really am. It pisses me off that half the world absolutely hates us and labels everyone in the country according to where we live. I was never for war, I was never for Bush in the least...That asshole. I was absolutely for Gore in 2000. I'm so interested in events and happenings outside of the US while two thirds of the country worry about internal affairs. And I dont want to play it out, but I just stated that I would never use the word American while describing myself. I live near the Ambassador Bridge in Michigan and many times I've considered when I finally get my own place to move to Canada and commute. Because I REALLY hate living here.

I agree. America seems like a great place to live. Its foreign policy does piss a lot of other countries off, but that's the government, not the people. Even if some of them voted for that government, its not really their fault if that government acts in a crap way.

I'd make sure you think that kind of opinion through. Most Americans I've met outside of the US find it surprisingly difficult to adjust to life in other countries. PARTICULARLY those who see themselves as liberals, culturally-wise types. The United States is a wonderful place to live, and the people who say they are ashamed to live here are the ones who feel like they have to prove to o ther countris that they disagree with what Bush is doing. Hey, guess what, 70 percent of America doesn't agree with what our government is doing. Look at the approval ratings. You saying that you are ashamed to be American is a pathetic attempt to prove something to people in other countries. If you disagree with the government, and everything they are doing, then do something. You aren't changing a thing by threatening to move to Canada.

Most of my voting life was spent under Thatcherism, then finally Labour win...what a let down.

Politics doesn't stop me being proud to be English.
I know if I was American, I would be just as proud.
And there aren't many countries I would say that about.
