i'm redesigning my record label's website (current design can be seen at http://www.sounddevastation.co.uk and just wondering what the averange music fan likes to see in a website design? (complex, simple, contrasting, frames, flash, whatever)

link some of your favouirtes, in terms of design (can be any kind of content)... it would help me immensely.

Thankyouu!

Let's start with good music...

But, if someone has a crappy band,
I guess it's almost worth it to gamble with a record label.
Maybe I just dont like the idea of someone making my decisions.

I've found people like to just watch the video and mp3s on the website itself, they only download when they see the url for the mp3.
But they like having the option regardless...
Flash is too impractical. It restricts the 'user environment' so much that you cant get enough info onto the page.
Linking to bands on myspace is a cop-out....
If you are taking a band "under your wing" you give them a website.

I like flash sites, but they don't have to be too complicated (like Muse's). I like sites like the ones from the Kooks and the Subways. These are all bandsites. xD I usually don't visit any other sites.

O yeah, and I agree with Ascendents, the links to myspace aren't smart. It makes it look like you're a really cheap label. Also, try to keep your site simple, you add to much text, and that looks quite unproffesional to me. Though, I do like your banners!

we only link to myspace as thats what the band (aotea) use as their homepage. we offered them their own space but they want us to link to their myspace.

Band sites are usually far more interesting that label sites, so their cool to recommend. The subways site is really nice actually, cheers for that!
