And I have downloaded lots of things I've seen suggested here. Emo, Northern Soul, Primal Scream, etc.
we're not talking about genre discussions, but rather discussions about perticular bands. any input is valuable in such threads, even if it's a one sentence response. by not responding you have not given me any reason to believe you've actually bothered to check out what we have been suggestin....hence the nomination....
northern soul is geezer music so you don't get any points for downloading that...what about downloading some of the stuff that people have been uploading in the sharing thread? beirut and the hidden cameras would be my suggestions....maybe the shins link is still working...

I do believe you are ageist!!!

Geezer music? Surely music is music?
Or are you too concerned about your image Marijan?

How open minded of you.

Closed minded, indeed.

Pardon me. I didn't realize I had had to make my presence known in each thread I visit. LOL.

Close lipped is closer to accurate than close minded.

Anyway, I choose not to jump into the middle of discussions about bands I don't know a whole lot about. If that makes me close minded, you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

As far as being forced to listen to my daughter's music, I run the show around here, and if I didn't want to hear it, I wouldn't hear it. My daughter is free to listen to whatever she chooses. Same as my Mom let me explore, she's free to do the same.

I just went and took a look at my cds, and I own music spanning 60 years, all the way up to today. I own bluegrass, rock, country, folk, new wave, big band, techno pop, classic rock, disco, prog, metal, blues and everything in between. Some I own a lot of, some I own a little. The point is, I listen to a wide variety of music.

Does the fact that I am not in close contact with today's music make me close minded? Or is it the fact that there are bands out there that I don't care for? I don't like rap. and I don't own any. But that isn't because I have never given it a chance. I worked with a guy for seven years, who listened to rap all the time. I liked Biggie, but the rest, I didn't care for. Because it wasn't appealing to my musical ear, does that make me close minded? Your 'old geezer music' comment was far more close minded than anything I have ever said about any music on these boards.

Let me ask you this adidasss....what time span does your music collection cover? How many genres? Is it only close minded if you're not into today's music? Does it only work one way? Does it work for people who don't listen to geezer music? Is that close minded, not listening to music because it's 'old'?

Because if not, then there is a double standard as to what 'close minded' means.

*EDIT* I also forget to mention, besides the cds I bought for my daughter, I have bought for myself in the last few months, Bruce Springsteen's new cd, which consist of folk, country, a touch of bluegrass and even some ragtime. I've also bought the new Dixie Chicks cd (bland compared to their other three), and James Blunt, not to mention Dean Martin's greatest hits.

Also, I own 4 cds by R. Carlos Nakai. A Native American flutist. It's very enriching, spiritually. I own a lot of music like that. Exploratory stuff. Can you make the same claim?

I'm not hear to argue, or cause trouble. It simply disturbed me to be considered close minded when I know I am probably the owner of a wider variety of music than most people here.

Really?

Well I seem to remember you telling me to name some stuff I liked post 2000. I named something like 27 albums *just* from the year 2000 and offered to carry on for the following years.

You never anwered.

And just because I don`t like *some* bands doesn`t make me closed minded. Wouldn`t close minded be not listening to them at all?

it's not an insult nor should i be considered an asshole by either of those two for nominating them, that's just how i see things...maybe jr. is more than willing to experiment in real life...but i haven't noticed him posting about a single band that's not from the 70's or before...
If anything you are the one with a strong close mindedness towards music, not Jr or Urban. I mean really going around fighting about people not listening to newer bands, saying your music is superior to everyone elses et cetera is not open mindedness, it's pretentious dribble.
